Seen here is the most recent sighting of the upcoming 2012 1-series hatchback undergoing testing in southern Europe. The dual split exhausts out back hints at a turbo engine. It could be the rumored Tri-Turbo Petrol 4 cylinder engine, or perhaps the N54 6-cylinder twin-scroll turbo motor. The split exhausts, the extra cooling ducts up front in the camouflage, larger wheels, and what appears to be large brakes, all point to this potentially being a range topping F20 1-series.
Its been months since the F20 1-series has been spotted in testing, but here it is in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Spain, perhaps undergoing high altitude testing. No word yet on whether the F20 will make it to the North American market.
Not much is known about the next generation 1-series, but what is known is that BMW sees this car as a core vehicle to its lineup in the future. Potentially, this car would be as important to … CONTINUED
We previously reported that BMW will be introducing a front-wheel model for the next generation 1-series (in addition to traditional RWD models). The FWD 1-series models will likely be receiving 4-cylinder and 3-cylinder versions, leading some to lament that the FWD configuration along with a small motor points to these future models are being more about efficiency/budget than performance.
However, if Autocars "sources" are to be believed, the future entry level 3-cylinder 1-series models are not considered as "entry level" … CONTINUED
Autocar is reporting that the upcoming FWD sub 1-series BMW will actually be badged as a 1-series, which means that future 1-series BMWs will come in both RWD (next generation of current 1-series lineup) or FWD option (the additional FWD models that will be added to the 1-series lineup beginning in 2013.
The next generation 1-series is expected to spawn off additional variants not present in the current 1-series lineup. Autobild speculates and illustrates the six 1-series models it believes are slated to introduced from 2011 to 2013, including 3-door, 5-door, coupe, convertible, sports van, and GT variants.
As many of us know already, the next generation 1-series (internal chassis codename F20) has been testing for some time now and has been in the wintery European north for cold climate testing. While its no secret that the next generation 1-series would likely get a 135i variant this is the first time that we are seeing a dual exhaust on the car on separate sides similar to other cars in the BMW range such as the 335i and 535i. This may simply be … CONTINUED

Thanks to the boys at spyshots.nl as theyve caught the new 1-series out in the cold Scandinavian testing area.
The car continues to be heavily camod but the car is now solidly in the BMW development cycle. As you may remember, the car was previously seen as a mule riding on the current 1-series body, then a camod prototype was seen driving around the streets on Munich. With more development under the cars belt, it has … CONTINUED
We bring you the first photos of what appears to be a 6 cylinder twin turbo F20 1-series 5-door hatchback in testing. Until now, the only F20 1-series prototypes we have seen have featured a single exhaust outlet. This newly spotted F20 features split dual exhaust outlets, which, judging by BMWs current models, usually signifies the presence of the 3 liter twin-turbo engine under the hood. The wheels featured on this F20 test mule have also not been spotted before and may very well be … CONTINUED
The guys at spyshots.nl have done it again and bring us some nice video footage of the 1er in action. Seeing the car driving around the streets of Germany gives some good insight into the general proportions of this car, and it certainly looks wider and more low slung and compared to the current car. This is still the 5 door version of the car and we have yet to see what a coupe version would look like.
Heres what we know so far. The 5/3-door variants … CONTINUED

While the car still remains in the engineering prototype phase, plans for the car have already been laid out and seem to be the most ambitious for any BMW car ever.
