Its been months since the F20 1-series has been spotted in testing, but here it is in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Spain, perhaps undergoing high altitude testing. No word yet on whether the F20 will make it to the North American market.

We previously reported that BMW will be introducing a front-wheel model for the next generation 1-series (in addition to traditional RWD models). The FWD 1-series models will likely be receiving 4-cylinder and 3-cylinder versions, leading some to lament that the FWD configuration along with a small motor points to these future models are being more about efficiency/budget than performance.

New information released on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations website shows that BMW is recalling all 1 Series models sold in the U.S. between 2008 and 2010 for a potential fire risk. According to BMW, cars built between December 1, 2007, and May 27, 2010, may not have sufficient clearance between the seatbelt tensioners and the sound insulation in the B-pillars. Should a crash occur, the tensioners could overheat. In rare instances, the excess temperature could possibly ignite the insulation material.

Autocar is reporting that the upcoming FWD sub 1-series BMW will actually be badged as a 1-series, which means that future 1-series BMWs will come in both RWD (next generation of current 1-series lineup) or FWD option (the additional FWD models that will be added to the 1-series lineup beginning in 2013.

The next generation 1-series is expected to spawn off additional variants not present in the current 1-series lineup. The BMW 1-series has achieved 1 million units produced after five years of production. The 1 millionth 1-series produced was delivered to its proud owner today at the Leipzig Motor Show, the Auto Mobil International (AMI). The car, a three-door BMW 118d built at BMW Plant Leipzig, was handed over jointly by Frank-Peter Arndt, Member of the Board of BMW AG for Production, and Stanislaw Tillich, the Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony, to a customer from Leipzig.
Get a load of this eye catching 1-series coupe. This “Power Green” custom colored 120i was spotted recently in Leipzig. The color seems to have been a special custom order as we all certainly would have noticed if this flashy color was in any BMW’s color palette.

Berk Technology’s BMW 135i with GIAC custom software won first for the Street Tire RWD class, a new class track record and a new track record for a BMW 135i in the 2010 Redline Time Attack at Buttonwillow Raceway Park on Sunday. The Berk entry had a fast lap time of 1:58.839 and was the only one to break the 2:00.000 barrier.

The 1-series hydrogen hybrid concept is powered by a 120hp 4 cylinder gas engine, hydrogen fuel, cell, electric motor, FWD and RWD!. An ASR tuned 135i coupe recently achieved a very impressive 178.7 mph trap speed in a standing quarter mile competition. The run was made at the Top Gun Run in Florida. For comparison, a GT-R with full bolt-ons ran 174mph. Check out the video of the run inside.
