Alrighty folks, the crew over at BimmerFile have strong evidence that the 2011 1er will offer a 7 speed Dual Clutch Transmission as an option. They are sure that a 6 speed manual transmission will remain. Many have speculated that a DCT would only be offered in the upcoming performance variant of the 1 series. It would feature the same transmission from the current Z4 and a few European-market BMW products. Strong birdies have pointed at the builds starting in March.

BMW maintains its goals of combining the green energy push with its own motto of "sheer driving pleasure" or "joy". They have aimed to make this car fun to drive, with a good amount of torque and power.

The Engine and Drivetrain

The engine itself is a uniquely derived unit that produced 170hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. … CONTINUED

Thanks to the boys at spyshots.nl as theyve caught the new 1-series out in the cold Scandinavian testing area.

The car continues to be heavily camod but the car is now solidly in the BMW development cycle. As you may remember, the car was previously seen as a mule riding on the current 1-series body, then a camod prototype was seen driving around the streets on Munich. With more development under the cars belt, it has now been moved for cold climate testing.
