They’re here! The newest additions to the ///M school fleet at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC have begun arriving. Approximately eight 1M coupes in total will be introduced to the group of M-cars which can be chosen by students participating in M performance driving courses at the Performance Center. Four 1Ms are already at the center and will be introduced to the fleet once their 1,200 mile break-in and scheduled service are completed.

According to a report out of Cardealermagazine, BMW Product Manager James Morrison says that response to the 1M has been greater then was expected and BMW is now looking at the possibility of spin-offs. Should be interesting!

BMW UK has launched the first commercial for 1-series M coupe, which recently went on sale in England. The commercial features a valencia orange 1M coupe on some empty twisties in the countryside poised to swallow up some tarmac, followed by some serious driving. It’s rare to see tire smoke, much less drifting, in a BMW commercial, so the 1M is clearly being advertised by BMW as a model for serious driving enthusiasts.

HP Autowerks is one of the first tuners we have seen take delivery of a project 1M coupe. Theirs is an alpine white 1M and they have already outlined their performance modification plans for the newest addition to their garage.
Jalopnik prints their 1M first drive review, echoing what many auto publications have said before them – that the 1M is most surely an M car.
