BMW’s new series of MPowered Performance videos have been a real hit so far. Part 1 saw the BMW 1M drifting precisely through concrete walls cut to the shape of the 1M. And now the theme of precision handling continues in Part 2, which is based atop the world’s highest helicopter landing pad. Thats enough said, watch the video below!
Sabine Schmitz might be out of Ring Taxi duty, but she can’t seem to let go off BMW M models. For the German car show TURBO, Sabine reviewed the 1-series M Coupe, and if it can live up to its marketing claims.
Even if you don’t understand German you can see what a blast she had. Or, in her own words: “The 1M makes you wanna drive fast.”
Perhaps the most highly anticipated BMW 1 Series M Coupe review has finally just aired – in episode 1 of Top Gear’s newest season (Season 17). Jeremy Clarkson takes the helm of the 1M coupe in the review and absolutely loves the car, calling it a brilliant brilliant car! It’s also put into the hands of The Stig for runs around the Top Gear track.
How did the 1M do in the performance measures? Well, it only managed to outdrag the Cayman R and Lotus Evora and beat the M3 CSL around the Top Gear track, with a time of 1:25:00 ! Motortrend takes on a direct comparison of the BMW 1M coupe and 2011 BMW M3 on the backroads. What’s their conclusion? Here are some of their more notable reactions.
This past saturday, the German Tuner magazine Sport Auto held their annual Tuner GP at Hockenheim Grand Prix raceway. This yearly event pits tuners from all over Europe against each other to see who is the best for bragging rights and with the victory comes added exposure for those shops in the winners circle. The TechTec BMW 1M coupe with its Akrapovic prototype exhaust, KW suspension, and 443hp, took 3rd place in the competition, behind a Lotus Exige and supercharged E46 M3.
Tiff Needeell, one of the more respected TV automotive reviewers tests the 1M coupe in the hills of the Scottish countryside. How did the 1M perform according to Tiff?
Tiff seems ultra pleased with the 1M’s “great feel, the chassis, the revs of this lovely engine, the throttle response.” He points out some lag at 1500 RPM in 6th gear, but calls the acceleration at 4000 RPM in 3rd gear virtually instantaneous. As for handling, the 1M has great turn in and even with traction control off, it powers out of turns with the back end firmly planted.
Tiff’s conclusion? The 1 Series M Coupe is an enthusiast’s dream. No surprises with that conclusion.
Read 1ADDICTS member sq68′s epic writeup of his 1M coupe european delivery experience, including some neat footage of his 1M on the Nurburgring, which seems to be a favorite stop of 1M owners after taking delivery. No surprises there, the 1M was built to be right at home on the track, especially the mother of them all.
