BMW Motorsport is adding a new car to its customer racing range, which is spearheaded by the BMW Z4 GT3, in the form of the BMW M235i Racing. At a price of 59,500 Euros (plus VAT), this car helps to make motorsport affordable on an entry-level basis. Customer feedback has been very positive so far. No wonder, as the new car is a true beauty.

BMW Motorsport is expanding its range of cars within the BMW Sports Trophy Customer Racing programme: from 2014, privateer BMW teams and drivers will have the opportunity to line up at events with the new BMW M235i Racing. Automotive News reports that the sale date for the Active Tourer in the U.S. will be early 2015.
The production Active Tourer will look essentially the same as the Active Tourer Concept and will share MINIs engines and FWD “UKL” platform. It will also come in a longer-wheelbase version with a third row of seats.
The Active Tourer is one of several new FWD vehicles which BMW will use to push into new segments. Ian Robertson, BMW AG’s board member for sales and marketing said: “With the Active Tourer, we will get a lot of new customers again. They will come out of the premium segment and from some of the volume players.”

Auto Motor Und Sport recently had some studio time with the M235i Coupe and they took the opportunity to bring it together with the iconic 2002 Turbo for a photoshoot and comparison look.
What we’re looking at is a 1973 2002 Turbo powered by a 2 liter turbo 4 cylinder (the first turbocharged production car in Europe) with 170 HP and 180 LB-FT torque. The 2002 Turbo weighs just 2,381 pounds. 0-60 MPH took 6.9 seconds.
By contrast, the M235i features a 3 liter turbo 6 cylinder outputting 322 HP and 332 LB-FT. It weighs 3200-3300 pounds and covers 0-60 in 4.8 sec (auto) / 5.0 sec (manual).
