This here is the 2009 7 series in the safest and heaviest edition. It looks almost the same as the regular new 7 series. What gives it away are the wide fail-safe tires and flag holders on the fenders.

BMW 5 Series and X5 are rated VR4 level, new 7 Series Security is very likely rated as VR6/VR7. Windows are at least 22 mm thick, body panels are made of ballistic-resistant armored fiber.

The car can resist most firearms from .44 and 357 Magnums to 9 mm Luger. There are also different electronical features such as cameras with intercom and automatic door locking in the case of attack.

The BMW M3 is widely acknowledged as one of the best sports cars in the world, but the interior is only so-so. To correct this German turner Zwickenpflug created a special version called the M3 Leather Edition.

BMW Group Research and Technology has developed a prototype for a multifunctional car key which enables cashless payment and personalised vehicle access. “As part of our research project we first integrated a security chip into the key casing, which communicates across short distances by radio with a card reader,” says Hans-Jorg Vogel, project manager at BMW Group Forschung und Technik. In future the key could also be used for other transport systems. Indeed, electronic tickets for bus, train and air travel could all be stored on the chip. The credit card function in the security chip allows electronic payments to be carried out quickly, securely and conveniently from the prototype key.

Autoblog: Motorsports fans are eagerly anticipating the 2009 ALMS season where Ferrari, Porsche, Panoz, Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet and now BMW will be competing for the GT2 title. BMW Motorsport unveiled the new M3 racing program back in February of this year and have been developing the car in Europe since then. They recently handed off the car to Rahal Letterman Racing who tested the car this past week at Road Atlanta and are currently running laps at Sebring International Raceway. BMW also announced the first two drivers for the program, Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand, both of whom have extensive experience driving previous versions of the M3.
