BMW’s November sales were up nearly 20% over the previous period last year, driven by hot demand for the F10 5-series and X1. The BMW Group delivered 129,014 vehicles total in November. The 20% increase is BMW’s highest monthly gain this year and the company now targets 1.4M cars sold by the end of 2010.
The BMW Group increased its sales significantly in its three most important markets of Germany, the U.S. and China. In its domestic market of Germany, sales volumes for the BMW and MINI brands climbed 29.6% in November, with a total of 25,156 new vehicle registrations (prev. yr. 19,409). This video should be 10 minutes of pure joy for carbon fiber fanatics to witness. It features BMW’s new CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) manufacturing plant and many steps of the carbon fiber parts production process. CF will be used extensively in BMW’s future Megacity electric vehicle due in 2013 and is currently used as roof material for some M cars.
The Megacity’s construction will be of a body-on-frame. The lower half is the “drive” module — an aluminum chassis that melds the battery, electric drive system and crash structure. A high-strength, lightweight, carbon fiber passenger compartment is attached on top. The key benefit is weight reduction, a prime consideration in reducing the weight and cost of the battery, while providing sufficient range.

For the second consecutive year, the readers of the German Autobild publication “Autobild Sportscars” have chosen the BMW X6 M as the ’sportscar of the year’ in the SUV category. The ‘Sportscars of the Year’ awards were held for the 8th time in 2010. More than 68,000 readers participated picking their favourites out of 173 models, divided in 17 vehicle categories. The award ceremony took place during the ‘Race Night’ at the Essen Motor Show.

German F1 racer Nick Heidfeld, we all know from the Williams F1 and now Sauber days has used the words interesting to describe the notion of re-joining forces with BMW, but this time behind the wheel of a future DTM racer. Heidfeld admits that his career in F1 is not yet over, but he tells Auto Bild that he likes the idea of working with BMW again, for whom he was the top driver from 2006-2009. Considering that he is having trouble finding a seat for the coming years, this doesnt seem that far fetched an idea.
