South Florida Bimmerpost members gathered for a rally while serving a good cause this past Saturday. The charity rally took drivers from Watson Island in Miami, FL up the coast to West Palm Beach, and back to Fort Lauderdale. To add some fun, poker cards were given out at 5 stops in total and the driver with the best hand at rally’s end won the grand prize. The rally was used to raise money for two national charities (Children’s Cancer Research Fund and WAABI).

The 1 series M coupe is said to complete the Nurbrugring lap in 8:12. For comparison, this is 10 seconds faster than E46 M3, same time as Z4 M-coupe, 7 seconds slower than the E90/E92 M3, and 22 seconds slower than the E46 M3 CSL.
We’ve seen many great videos of some great runs on the M3, showing proper lines, shifting, and overall driving, but this one takes the cake on how NOT to drive on the Nurburgring. The driver is clearly unfamiliar with the proper way to run on the Nordschleife and to handle his M3. His driving follies would be entertaining, if not for the fact that it poses danger to others on the open-to-public track.
The Forum Wars producers have laid down the challenge for our M3 owners to take on a C63 AMG from BenzWorld for Season 2. The race will take place in Houston, Texas on the weekend of Jan. 8, 2011 and will be aired on SPEED and the internet sometime in the spring. Nominate yourself or another M3POST member inside!
Racers and fans of the inaugural season of The Forum Wars will experience better competition as the new season will include:
- ¼ mile NHRA drag strip
- Improved road course design
- 0-100-0 racing
- Cars and drivers nominated and approved by the forums
- Additional track time for the drivers
- More evenly matched vehicles with similar mods and tires
BMW has posted a useful comparison chart of the 1M coupe versus the Audi TT-RS and Cayman S which shows that the 1M stacks up favorably against two cars which are significantly more expensive in price (both nearly $20k higher in price). The 1-series M coupe ties the TT-RS for highest horsepower, and leads in the torque and power-to-weight ratio categories. Check out the full comparison inside.
Talk of next 1-series M already?! Now that the 1M has been revealed, Scott26 has already turned to talk of the future of the 1M (or M2 as it may be called), as well as the M-Division’s future, which may bring more track/performance focused 1M and M3 special models, as well as potential Z4M and X3M models!
The 1 series M coupe color we have seen throughout BMW’s marketing teasers and the official release info is Valencia Orange. It’s certainly attention grabbing, if not also somewhat polarizing. The other two colors currently offered is Alpine White and Black Sapphire Metallic, which can be seen currently on BMW’s visualizer, as well as these great renders by a Bimmerpost member.
In case you didn’t spot it on BMW’s 1 series M coupe visualizer minisite, here is the gorgeous (and informative) 1M coupe catalog in digital format for download. Read through it and it will be clear to most that this isn’t merely a 135i with an M badge attached.
The 1M Coupe Visualizer is now available on BMW.com, including a virtual look at the 1M in black and white. In addition to the 360 degree visualizer, there is a complete set of 1M design and technology highlights for you to explore.
