Miramas, in the south of France is a test track BMW fondly calls their own “Area 51″. A well hidden and confidential track where BMW can test their metal without fear of prying eyes or ears. But now it seems, they’ve invited a few BMW M owners to come over to the track and try it out themselves.
BMW invited some nice machinery to the party as well, including the M3 GT4 and an M3 GTS! Now this looks like it was some serious fun. Check out the BMW Produced video below!
The first press days of the 2011 Detroit North American International Autoshow is now over and done. The BMW stand was somewhat non-descript relative to their usual digs at places like Paris, Geneva and Frankfurt. Despite this, BMW made a very strong showing with several new World Premiers, which were more then premieres in name only.
BMW 1-Series M Coupe: World Premiere
First and foremost has to be the BMW 1-Series M Coupe. This was the star of the BMW stand, the bright orange color, beefy bodywork and racy electronic logos did their jobs well, as nearly every passerby had to stop and take look at the BMW stand. This is really neat. The guys over at BimmerFile have scored an interview with BMW M Director and BMW 1M brainchild, Dr. Kay Segler. The interview took place during the 2011 NAIAS in Detroit.
The interview itself is about 6 and a half minutes long and touches heavily upon the important M topics of the day, that is to say the BMW 1M and the upcoming F10 M5.

Taking a quick aside to the MINI stand, we find the MINI Paceman concept car, a two door version of the Countryman which BMW would ideally position relative to the Countryman in the same way that the X6 is positioned to the X5. Not half bad.
