EVO reviews 25 years of the M5. This great read covers the E28, E34, E39, E60 M5 generations after back to back drives on the famed Nurburgring. We can’t wait to see what they have to say about the F10 M5, a concept version of which is scheduled to be unveiled next month.

In a surprising move last week, Volkswagen acquired an 8% stake in SGL Carbon SE, with whom BMW has a joint venture for production of carbon fiber for the BMW i models. While BMW and Susanne Klatten (one main BMW shareholder) is watching this closely, Financial Times Germany now reports that VW is trying to play this move down as an investment and backs their claim by waiving a seat in SGL Carbon’s Supervisory Board. “That’s out of question,” a VW Spokesperson told FTD and went on: “Neither are there any plans”.

This might look like a relief at first sight, yet Financial Times also report that the Volkswagen Group has pretty good ties with SGL Carbon, even without being involved in the SGL Supervisory Board. Huber … CONTINUED

The BMW Group’s sales growth continued to be solidly in the double-digit range in February. A total of 111,720 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles were delivered to customers (prev. yr. 91,763) – an increase of 21.7% compared to February 2010 and setting a new record high for the month. For the year to the end of February, sales volumes were 24.7% higher than in the first two months of the previous year, at 216,911 units (prev. yr. 173,913).

Rumors abound yesterday about the BMW Ring-Taxi possibly not returning in 2011. However, reports of its death has been greatly exaggerated. The Ring-Taxi is not going away, but changing forms. We were able to reach out and receive official word from BMW M on the matter. The official situation is:

“The BMW Ring-Taxi will continue in 2011 and use the BMW M3 this year. It will be driven by the instructors from the BMW Driving Experience program - much like it used to be in past years.”

In other words, the only thing that changes is that the E60 M5 has been replaced by the E90/E92 M3, and the chances of Sabine Schmitz driving the Ring-Taxi are none this year, compared to slim in past years.

BMW i news on a roll today. Just moments after the first ever BMW i8 spy shots, here are the first ever BMW i3 spyhots. The BMW i3 is the production version of BMW’s long-awaited Mega City Vehicle.

The BMW i3 will hit the market in 2013 and targets an annual sale of at least 30,000 units.
