We’ve reported before about the M Festival taking place at the Nürburgring from June 23rd through June 26th 2011. It’s a four day event comprising of many highlights like the M Night on Thursday evening, an M parade on the Ring on Friday and of course the Nürburgring 24h race on Saturday and Sunday.
What caught our attention in a recent interview about the M Festival is an announcement that they “will be taking the opportunity to exclusively present two brand-new M automobiles for the very first time” at the M Night. BMW fans bemoaned BMW’s seeming abandonment of “The Ultimate Driving Machine” slogan (although it was never formally abandoned or done away with) in favor of the recent “JOY” campaign. But, The Ultimate Driving Machine is back! In this new BMW ad featuring an F10 5-series and a refueling plane, The Ultimate Driving Machine slogan is indeed used. The message may be a bit more green than in prior times, but the commercial nevertheless evokes a sense of the performance image on which BMW has staked its business.

BMW’s current focus on reducing its overall fleet CO2 emissions is clear to anyone following the company’s newest models and technologies. As with all of the world’s auto manufacturers, the company is preparing to meet more stringent emissions standards in the next few years. How well is BMW doing with regard to this goal? Compared to Daimler AG, extremely well.
As cited by Autonews, the current estimate of BMW’s green lead over rival Daimler is valued at approximately 2 billion euros. The estimate comes by way of Morgan Stanley auto analyst Stuart Pearson and the current gap between the two company’s average fleet CO2 emissions. Specifically, BMW’s current average fleet CO2 emissions is 147.9 g/km compared to Daimler’s 163.3 g/km.

BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg South Carolina, site of BMW X3, BMW X5 and BMW X6 production has made the US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Top 20 List of On-Site Generation.
The companies on this list participate in Green Power purchases which reduce the environmental impact of electricity use.
BMW users an on-site landfill gas energy system, which in 2010 supplied 37 percent of the company’s overall electricity use or roughly 62 million kilowatt-hours of power. Gas is directed from a landfill to the manufacturing facility to power its four gas turbines, which generate approximately 4.3 MW of electricity for the factory while also supplying water for cooling and hot water needs.

CAR Magazine got its hands on the 1-series M coupe and the conclusion is like that of the other auto magazines before it - that it is a proper M car, no doubt. BMW of North America announced today that the free Pandora® internet radio iPhone app, the first third party app approved for the new BMW Apps feature, is now live and available for download at www.itunes.com/appstore.
Beginning today, all MY 2011 and 2012 BMW vehicles equipped with the BMW Apps option will be able to stream Pandora internet radio through the iPhone app. Once the iPhone is connected to the vehicle, the Pandora personalized radio functions are operated by the vehicle’s existing controls. The Pandoraintegration, like the BMW Connected app features, is seamless.
