A couple of 1ADDICTS members just returned from a special tour of the BMW Leipzig plant and have shared what they saw of the production plant. Most of the tours at the factory are conducted in German and in groups of up to 40 people. This particular one was in English and for just two special guests. This allowed the tour guide to take our members off the beaten path behind BMW’s most modern flexible factory. The modern Leipzig Werk really makes Munich’s (3er) factory look really old and dark by comparison. Read on inside…
Some say the BMW M3 is beginning to show its age, especially considering the all-new F30 3-series has already been spotted in testing. As far as performance is concerned however, the E92 M3 coupe continues to impress and dispose of even recently introduced competition, such as the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe. Many pegged the C63 AMG coupe to give the M3 a run for its money, if not overtake it. Remarkably however, both AMS and Autobild recently ran comparisons between the two super coupes and came to the same conclusion: The M3 still is the better car.
Per Autobild, the “M3 won as it’s sportier and produces more fun”, or as AMS puts it, “afterall it’s the level of maturity which makes the M3 the better car”.
AMS … CONTINUED
Earlier this month, M-Power.com invited six lucky customers from all-over the world to the Ring and let them experience and drive the new BMW M5 (see the video and our thread HERE). One of them was Benjamin Goh from Singapore. Judging from his enthusiastic comments in said video, there was little doubt that Benjamin was a true car enthusiast. M-Power.com visited him in Singapore and chronicled the event, which leaves no doubt he’s a car fanatic.
Just to name a few cars Benjamin owns, the following report includes photos of an M3 GTS, a 1M, a Lamborghini Gallardo and a just-delivered Ferrari 458. Oh yea, and he’s got no less than two BMW M5s on order.
Enjoy the report and head over to M-Power.com for more photos. If … CONTINUED
Even the most efficient internal combustion engine can only convert about one-third of the energy derived from fossil fuels into the mechanical kinetic energy needed to power a motor vehicle. Over the past few years BMW EfficientDynamics has made great improvements in engine efficiency, for example with technologies such as direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, exhaust-driven turbochargers, brake energy regeneration and the Auto Start Stop function. However, about 60 percent of the generated energy is still lost, half of it being exhaust heat, with the remaining half as heat absorbed by the engine cooling system. Finding ways of recovering this lost heat energy is one of the major goals being pursued by engineers working on BMW EfficientDynamics for the future. That is why the BMW … CONTINUED
We bring you more spy photos of the 2012 3 series sedan (F30), in black and space gray, as BMW finishes the final evaluation phase testing on the next generation 3 series sedan.
Although the camouflage tape remains on these FEP level prototypes, we’ve already recently had a great uncovered look at the production F30 front and rear [see these photos if you've been under a rock] in a recent spotting at an F30 official photo shoot. But, these photos continue to give us views at the F30’s overall size (expected to be just slightly larger than the E90) and its attractive proportions and stance. The black F30 test car also shows a new wheel style yet to be seen on an F30 prototype.
Signs are pointing to … CONTINUED
Yet another excellent european delivery journal thread! But, the photos never get old and boy are there a lot of those in this journal, which features tons of bucket list level events and places to see.
Member ///M1 started with pickup at The Welt, followed by the ‘mandatory’ factory tour, and once done, a spirited 550+km drive North to Cologne, where for all 3 days he was hosted by the Scuderia Ferrari team in the Formula 1 Paddock during the German F1 Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. As a side note, he is on a life-long dream to visit every single active F1 circuit in the world, and is now at the half-way mark. His subsequent trip through Central and Eastern Europe was timed such … CONTINUED
Beautiful set of Alpine White 1M coupe photos from one of our 1ADDICTS members from down under. This 1M features modifications which provide a nice contrast to the white exterior — gloss black wheels, black grilles, carbon fiber mirror covers, and carbon fiber performance spoiler.
Our coverage of M cars from this weekend’s BMW M Experience at the Indianapolis MotoGP continues with the first exhaust clips of the F10 M5 safety car showing off its badass Akropovic exhaust system, the production F10 M5, and some more 1M safety car pics.
The videos below were taken during the M5 safety car’s police escorted drive from the race track to downtown Indianapolis, where it was shown off to BMW M Experience VIPs and passerbys.
