Sometimes it’s mad fun (and great sounding) to rip off some revs in your BMW in enclosed spaces such as tunnels or underground garage. So how would the 560hp F10 M5 MotoGP Safety Car with its Akrapovic exhaust system sound in the BMW Welt? As you can see in the video inside, pretty damn awesome!

Former BMW head of design Chris Bangle has released a novel, and along with it a drawing contest to win a trip to his studio in Italy.

It comes as no surprise that the novel is about transportation vehicles, but this is a fictional novel, titled “Peter Teufel: A Tale of Car Design in 3 Parts.” Bangle utilizes a fictional setting and character to explore 3 main topics: the secret to ‘true car design’ in the past, the ‘twisted reality’ of car design as it has become today, and the inevitable consequences the current reality will have on the future.

The prologue of the book describes six types of vehicles, of which Bangle invites readers to submit drawings [contest details]. The grand prize winner will receive a trip … CONTINUED

At the 2012 Detroit NAIAS, we sat down and chatted with Oliver Ganser, the 3 Series Product Manager at BMW North America. As the F30 3 Series may now be ordered and will have its official worldwide market launch in just a few weeks - on February 11, we naturally had many questions for him (many directly from you, our members). Here are the F30 related topics we covered.

Are the aerodynamics of the F30 improved by the M-sport package, or is it only a cosmetic difference?

M Sport Package has same drag coefficient (Cd) value as the base models – 0.29 Cd for 328i and 0.30 Cd for 335i. Each F30 model has been optimized for minimum drag and turbulence and to create directional airflow. A … CONTINUED

The new BMW 3 Series Saloon has lived up to the legacy of its predecessor having been crowned What Car? ‘Best Compact Executive Car’ 2012, for the seventh consecutive year with the 320d SE.

The BMW 3 Series Saloon reigned supreme in the Compact Executive category, recognised for remaining ahead of the competition in every way. With its EfficientDynamics package making this ‘3’ the most economical car in its class it appeals to both business and retail customers. However, it was not just the BMW 3 Series’ outstanding economy that stood out for the judges; it was commended for being smooth and refined whilst still offering that sheer driving pleasure.

Chas Hallett, What Car? editor-in-chief, said: “The new BMW 3 Series is great to drive, with sharp steering … CONTINUED

German magazine Autozeitung has pitted the new BMW M5 (F10) against its bigger cousin. The F10 M5 is powered the S63Tu, an improved version of the BMW X6M’s S63 engine. Given the S63Tu’s enhancements over the S63 and the F10 M5’s lighter weight, the M5 winning in all categories and placing in 1st is certainly not surprising.

What is interesting however is to see more real world F10 M5 performance test results.

They were able to get the F10 M5 from 0-100km/h (62mph) in 4.2 seconds and from 0-200km/h (124mph) in just 11.7 seconds, which is wicked fast.

The rest of the data, despite being in German, is pretty self explanatory and easy to tell, so have a look below.
