BMW Classic had a great showing of cars at the Techno Classica Autoshow held in Essen, Germany. The Techno Classica is billed as the worlds largest classic car show. It never dissapoints. At the BMW display area were some great cars from BMW’s glory days (and even some modern models). What makes it all so great is that most of the cars shown were BMW car club member’s cars. New BMW M6 Convertible and BMW X1 Sport Activity Vehicle to Make World Debuts at the New York International Auto Show.

The BMW M6 Convertible and BMW X1 Sport Activity Vehicle will make their World Debuts at the 2012 New York International Auto Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (655 West 34th Street at 11th Avenue) in Manhattan. The BMW M6 Convertible and BMW X1 and will be joined by the BMW M6 Coupe, BMW X6 M (North American debuts) and the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe (U.S. auto show debut) as the featured BMW vehicles in New York. The BMW i3 and i8 Concepts will also be featured providing a glimpse into the future of mobility.

BMW’s highly anticipated i8 plugin electric hybrid sports car is not due until 2014 but CAR claims to already have the skinny on the production i8’s specs and performance data, as follows.

Powertrain / Drivetrain

The gullwinged production i8 is reported to weigh 1,450kg (3,196 pounds). Its 170hp electric motor drives the front wheels while a 223hp / 295lb-ft turbo 1.5L 3-cylinder engine powers the rear wheels. Combined hp and torque figures are 393hp / 406lb-ft torque, more horsepower than the concept’s 349 hp and the same torque figure.

Performance is said to be 4.9sec 0-62mph and a 156mph top speed.

BMW of North America today announced that the all-new 560 horsepower 2013 M5 Sedan will participate in the grueling One Lap of America event starting May 4, 2012. Instructors from the BMW Performance Center, located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, will drive the 3,300 mile tour that originates in South Bend, Indiana and incorporates highway, skid pad, drag strip, and closed course racing during the eight day event.

“The fifth generation M5 will compete for the new ‘Showroom Stock’ recognition within the Luxury Sedan class at One Lap of America, which serves as the perfect opportunity to demonstrate its performance capabilities as well as those of the BMW Performance Center instructors,” said Dan Gubitosa, BMW Performance Center Manager. BMW Group, the Official Automotive Partner to the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, has now delivered the first 40 vehicles that will be used for this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.

The newly-liveried vehicles will form part of the full fleet which will be used by LOCOG to help drive the Games. The fleet consists of electric, diesel, and hybrid cars, as well as a range of motorcycles and bicycles, and benefits from BMW’s sector-leading EfficientDynamics technologies meaning that it will achieve LOCOG’s strict 120g CO₂/ km emissions target.

Have a look at how the new F30 3 series sedan was launched into the Australian market. The presentation featured snazzy light effects imposed onto the 3 series, similar to the BMW Moscow presentation.

Autoexpress rightfully calls 3 the magic number for BMW. It’s BMW’s top selling model and has set the standard in the small-medium sports sedan class for decades. As such, any new 3 series model is always big news and the natural question to come to everyone’s mind is how it compares to its most direct rivals - traditionally the Audi A4 and Mercedes Benz C Class.
