Yet another M5 gone. The M5 belonging to Dutch DJ Headhunterz (featured in the drift lesson video below) was recently crashed. Despite what the drift video below might lead one to guess, the DJ was not responsible for the accident as he was traveling in the U.S. at the time. Four people were in the car when it lost control and crashed into a tree.

DJ Headhunterz posted this message to facebook: “Just received the news That crashed my car. Noone got hurt, thats what matters. Life will keep on challenging you, I’ll just deal with it.” The silver lining here is that no one was injured.

Although this crash was nowhere as severe as last month’s 300km/h M5 wreck, this M5 looks to be totaled as well. … CONTINUED

A great set of real life comparison photos between the F30 and F10, by Paul Tan.

Although the general styling of the newest 3 series and 5 series is now more consistent and shares more styling cues than the previous generation E90 and E60, there are still significant differences (in particular the front end) between the two designs as these photos highlight.

Here’s the tale of the tape for the F30 and F10:

F30
Height - 56.3 in
Length - 182.5 in
Width - 71.3 in
Wheelbase - 110.6 in

F10
Height - 57.6 in
Length - 192.8 in
Width - 73.2 in
Wheelbase - 116.8

BMW recently revealed the 2013 7 Series LCI / facelift refresh model [official thread]. Along with the newly updated looks and technology (the most important of which is the Navigation Pro iDrive system), the US is also set to receive a diesel 7 Series model (according to C&D) sometime next year.

It will be powered by the same 3.0 liter diesel inline 6-cylinder engine from the X5 xDrive35d. Actual output for the 7 Series application isn’t yet known, but the standard configuration of this engine currently produces 265hp and 425 lb-ft torque, with an available high output version outputting 308hp / 465 lb-ft torque.

It should be badged as either the 735d or 740d.

This is a good sign for 3 Series and 5 Series fans hoping for a … CONTINUED

This is a project that many M3POST members have been following for quite some while now. It’s the build process and results for a low compression option for the M3 S65 engine which allows it to run a 10:1 compression ratio (compared to factory 12:1 ratio). And why is that a good thing? The lower compression ratio allows the use of higher boost (via supercharger) safely on pump fuel.

M5 and M6 owners-to-be will have to wait just a bit longer for upgraded stopping power.

We have confirmed with BMW that the M Carbon Ceramic Brake system originally set for availability beginning with the 2013 Model Year M5 and M6 (starting July production), has been delayed until sometime in calendar year 2013.

There’s no indication yet of when exactly in 2013 it will become available, and the new availability date applies not just to North America, but in all markets worldwide.
