BMW engineer Max Reisböck created what became the prototype for the first 3 Series Touring based off his desire for a larger and roomier car, by way of a $14,000 budget, a friend’s garage, and a wrecked E30 sedan.
The story about the invention of the BMW 3 Series Touring and the beginning of the lifestyle touring. Engineer Max Reisböck wanted to go on vacation with his family, but in the mid 80’s regular BMW’s were too small for his luggage. That’s why he invented the BMW Touring out of a wrecked 3 Series Sedan. Finally, the board of BMW took over his idea.

Little more than a year before the EU6 exhaust emission standard comes into effect in September 2014, BMW is increasing the number of models that already fulfil the more stringent emission regulations.
