A month ago, a new BMW prototype was spied for the first time. At the time, given its fastback shape and substantial similarities to the 3 Series GT (3GT) prototypes we’ve been spying for months, we deemed it to be a 3GT with some camouflage removed or altered. But, the prototype has been spotted again and the additional looks at the prototype have us convinced that it is indeed the F36 4 Series Gran Coupe (4GC) being tested.
Here’s a brief analysis of the clear differences between the two prototype models. The comparison photos below should also be helpful.

Per Scott26: Because of the controversy that will launch with this car [the F32 coupe]. The prototypes have underneath the camouflage, vacumned plastic sheets and foam moulds that hide the overall details, it makes the car look fatter and chunkier when underneath it combines the sportier profile of the E92 with the elegance of the 6er.
The good news is that underneath the disguise lies a very good looking car ,which really enhances the stylish and individual looks of the E92 with modern BMW design language and features but still keeping that individual look which distinguishes it from the 3er Sedan to be classified as the new BMW 4er Coupe And Cabrio.

According to a new report from Autobild, BMW is considering reordering the nomenclature of their model lineup for consistency. If this happens, all sedan, wagons, and GT’s will get odd numbers. All coupes, convertibles and Gran Coupe’s get even numbers.
In other words, the successors of the E92 3-series coupe would become the 4-series coupe (F32), the E93 3-series convertible a 4-series convertible (F33). BMW had similar plans for the current generation E92 and E93 3-series but got cold feet for several reasons. Now the successful introduction of Audi A5 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe is reportedly making BMW reconsider the introduction of a 4-series again, says Autobild. According to Automobile Magazine, the next generation F30 / F32 3-series will spawn 5 variants, including a Gran Turismo (GT) version. Also, the next gen M3 will no longer come in sedan form, leaving only a coupe and convertible version.
