BMW 5 Series range: even more efficient thanks to BMW TwinPower Turbo. The BMW 5 Series range builds on its leading position in the areas of design, sporting capability, comfort and efficiency with an extended range of engines. The BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition, for example, represents the epitome of efficiency in a premium executive class car. The Sedan is powered by a 135 kW/184 hp four-cylinder diesel engine, yet its average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is just 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres (62.8 mpg imp).
Beginning in Autumn 2011, the 5-series will also feature Auto Start-Stop function and Driving Experience Control including ECO PRO mode.
New four-cylinder engines with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology add further talent to the line-up of petrol and diesel powerplants.

Damon Lavrinc at Autoblog brings news about full customizable LCD gauge displays coming to the “refreshed” 5-series and 7-series, which we take to mean the facelift / LCI versions of the current models – supposedly within 2 years time.
It appears that BMW’s two largest sedans will transition from black panel displays to full digital LCD displays where the tachometer, speedometer, fuel meter, and temperature gauge will all take a digital form. The display may also be customized to display navigation and infotainment info and take on different looks appropriate for the car being in sport or comfort mode.
We’ll lament the extinction of the physical needle and gauges in the F10 and F01, but we suspected that it was only a matter of time before full LCD … CONTINUED
For anyone who is vigilant about the popularity of BMWs they spot on the roads of North America, this should come as no surprise – the 5-series GT has unfortunately been a bit of a sales disappointment. In an interview with Automotive News, BMW of North America CEO Jim O’Donnell says he wishes the company hadn’t stopped selling the 5-series wagon (F11) in the United States last year because the company thought a lot its 5-series station wagon customers would go with the GT.
Instead of luring the 5-series station wagon owners to the GT, it’s the 7-series owners who seem interested in the 5-series GT instead. As an example, in Florida, 10 percent of BMW 7-series owners have replaced their cars with the 5-series GT, … CONTINUED
Trussardi is better known as a fashion house than custom car builder, but that hasn’t stopped them from constructing a unique 5-series GT edition.
The limited edition Trussardi 5-series GT has been announced in celebration of the designer company’s 100th anniversary. Based on the 530d xDrive GT, this special GT draws on inspiration from the concepts of leather and gloves, Trussardi’s first core business.
This limited edition GT has been repainted in Heraldic Brown, a color which invokes the look of fine leather. The Trussardi logo adorns the front fenders. The interior features special fine beige leather with contrast stitches and multiple Trussardi logos.
The Trussardi edition GT will also be available in 535d, 535i
and 550i models. Pricing for the Trussardi GT has not yet been announced.
The BMW 530d GT has been crowned Executive Car of the Year in the 2010 Professional Driver Car of the Year Awards and the 530d sedan finished second in the judging making it a one-two for BMW. Also, the BMW 7-Series has been awarded Chauffeur Car of the Year by top chauffeuring website thechauffeur.com.

Hamann has completed its work on the 5-Series GT and involves an impressive list of exterior and dynamic changes.
Their kit includes first and foremost a lowering kit for the models 530d, 535i and 550i (including air suspension).
The product range also includes a front spoiler to be mounted on the standard front spoiler of the series, side skirts and a rear spoiler in a ""subtle" or "striking" design. Both provide reduced lift force at the rear axle and thus considerably improve the driving dynamics. A new rear apron makes room for the HAMANN mufflers. The muffler system itself is composed of four stainless steel exhaust pipes measuring a massive 90 mm.

We suppose its downright impossible to discuss the 550i GT without first mentioning its shape. In a word, awkward. To add one more word, really awkward. The front end happily employs BMWs latest design direction, with mega-nostrils dwarfing the Roundel and the newest version of their patented angel eyes.
Thankfully, the inside is a completely different story. Unlike the divisive exterior, BMW has done a first rate job designing and appointing the 550i GTs interior.… CONTINUED
