Frozen Matte Gray and Frozen Matte Black paint options were made available to European customers beginning this past March for the F10 5 series, which represents the first time that BMW has offered the matte paint option for non-M cars. It is an option only for F10/F11 M-sport packaged cars. As these photos show, the matte finish looks great on the F10, but it doesn’t come cheap. The matte gray and matte black options cost over 3,000 euros.

In order to offer drivers comfortable and safe vehicles in the future, equipped with the most modern assistance systems available, the engineers at BMW Group Research and Technology have been working for many years on the development of electronic co-pilots to support automated driving in specific situations – for example the BMW TrackTrainer tested on the race track, as well as adaptive cruise control (ACC) and the Emergency Stop Assistant. To further understand the potential offered by these systems, as well as their limitations, researchers are ready to take their next major step: developing advanced driver assistance systems for the motorway.

To accomplish this, researchers have equipped a BMW 5 Saloon with intelligent software as well as vision assistance and environment detection systems. The advanced automated assistance … CONTINUED

Even the most efficient internal combustion engine can only convert about one-third of the energy derived from fossil fuels into the mechanical kinetic energy needed to power a motor vehicle. Over the past few years BMW EfficientDynamics has made great improvements in engine efficiency, for example with technologies such as direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, exhaust-driven turbochargers, brake energy regeneration and the Auto Start Stop function. However, about 60 percent of the generated energy is still lost, half of it being exhaust heat, with the remaining half as heat absorbed by the engine cooling system. Finding ways of recovering this lost heat energy is one of the major goals being pursued by engineers working on BMW EfficientDynamics for the future. That is why the BMW … CONTINUED

The current generation Lexus GS 350 has been long in the tooth for quite a while now, but Lexus has just debuted the all new 2013 GS350, a car that’s aimed squarely at the likes of the BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-Class, and Audi A6. What does the new GS 350 bring to the table this time around?

It features an all new chassis with more spacious interior, and is powered by a 3.5L V6 306hp/277lb-ft torque motor. Transmission is RWD and takes the form of a six speed sequential shift auto or optional AWD. The styling has been given a pretty radical overhaul and adopts Lexus’ current styling language recently seen on the CT 200h compact hybrid and LF-A.

The GS 350 and F10 are fairly close in … CONTINUED

BMW is reportedly considering bringing the F11 5-series touring / wagon to the U.S. for the first time after disappointing sales from the 5-series GT. While no final decision has yet been made, we are excited by the prospect of seeing the F11 on U.S. shores. In our opinion, it’s one of BMW’s most attractive wagons ever built.
