The upcoming BMW 6-Series Coupe will come in a 640i flavor, featuring the turbocharged inline-6 series dubbed the N55. This configuration has so far not made it to the US on the Cabrio version, but Autoblog.com has confirmed that the 640i will make it here in both Coupe and Cabrio versions when the coupe arrives this fall.
The N55 is a TwinPower turbo 3.0L inline-6 pumping out 316HP and 332ft-lb of torque in European spec.
In addition to the N55, Autoblog has also learnt that the AWD xDrive system will also become a new option, but only on the V8 650i.
The soon to be released 6-Series Gran Coupe was first seen as a concept platform to showcase the new 6-Series Coupe styling, back in April of 2010. But then rumors and then design patent filings revealed that indeed BMW was going to produce a production version of the vehicle. Final confirmation came in the form of the first spyshots of the vehicle.

Introducing for the first time – the production BMW 6-series gran coupe spied during testing! The beautiful 6-series gran coupe is a sedan-coupe take on the F13 6-series coupe and features frameless windows. As earlier patent images revealed, the Gran Coupe shows the same front and rear bumpers as the existing 6-series models F12 and F13.
The 6-series Gran Coupe is quite a bit longer than the 6-series coupe and convertible. The Concept Gran Coupe unveiled back in 2010 has a length of over 5m (197 inches) while the 6-series coupe is 4.9m or 192.7 inches. These spy shots suggest a similar increase in size.

Hartge has begun its tuning program for the new 6-series. Thus far, the Hartge 6-series is equipped with a stainless steel sport exhaust system, 19″ or 20″ Hartge wheels, and lower springs which lower the car by 30mm front and 25mm rear.
No info on yet what cosmetic aero parts will be forthcoming.
The interiors of Hartge car can be equipped with Hartge mats, steering wheel, and aluminum pedal set.
The upcoming 6 Series Gran Coupe’s exterior design has apparently been revealed in these renderings found in a BMW patent filing. This design remains fairly close to the BMW Concept Gran Coupe revealed a year ago at the Beijing Autoshow. The front fascia loses some of its more aggressive styling bits such as the aggressive side intake inlets in favor of the production 6-series bumper. The wheels have also been sized down for practical purposes.
Expect the 6 Series Gran Coupe to feature the same range of engines as the current 6-series coupe and convertible.
Based on previously info, we’ve tentatively pegged its debut to be sometime mid-next year.
BMWUSA has posted up their newest BMW 6-Series TV Ad, which is titled “The Moment”. The ad features the topless 6 barelling down canyon roads and through tunnels at good speed with the V8 growl providing a soundtrack. All the elements needed for a good commercial. The punchline at the end of course is to “Remember to Breath”, which is BMWUSA’s theme for the new 6.

As a nice followup to their 5-Series review, Rosenthal Automotive comes up with another unique BMW video review. Its more fun then serious, but a worthwhile watch.
The Alpina B6 based on the 2012 6-series (F12) prototype has been spotted for the first time, on the streets of Germany. Typical to form, this B6 prototype can be identified by its Alpina wheels, quad exhaust, and lack of M style aero parts (meaning it’s not an M6 prototype). This prototype does not yet feature the eventual Alpina bodywork.
Expect the F12 B6 to feature the same powerplant as the F10 B5 (based on the current F10 550i sedan) – a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 good for 507hp, but perhaps with slightly upgraded power output.
An astute (and camera equipped) site member spotted this Le Mans blue F13 6-series coupe M-sport on the way to work this morning. This is the first time we have seen the 6-series coupe M-sport prototype with the actual M-sport wheels, which we uncovered last month.
