Today, BMW announced plans to feature the all-electric BMW i3 in a 60-second spot during Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday, February 1, 2015. After a 4-year hiatus, BMW will be returning to the big game with a commercial during the first quarter.
Here is another interview with new BMW M head, Fraciscus van Meel, by CAR, which provides us some more insight into the new M CEO’s philosophies and outlook on the M brand.
On whether there is a possibility of a BMW i8 M model:
‘I can see a marrying of BMW’s M and i brands, but I can’t see an i8M just now. There is a very close collaboration between M and i – we have an open-book policy, and each brand can look into the … CONTINUED

An interesting piece from ft.com highlights how BMW is sounding a bit of an alarm about connected car data. The data itself is not bad, but they are noting that there is pressure from advertising companies and silicon valley tech companies to get their hands on that data.
Ian Robertson, BMW board member, is quoted as saying “There’s plenty of people out there saying: give us all the data you’ve got and we can tell you what we can do with it” … “And we’re … CONTINUED

Here’s a teaser image for a reveal to come tomorrow – on the 16th.
It’s been a few months since the last BMW M4 GTS sighting, but we’ve now spotted it undergoing winter testing in Scandinavia.
Using MotoGP M4 Safety Cars as a basis (or as decoys), we see a large front spoiler lip and high trunk wing on the prototype. These parts are different than the M Performance front lip and trunk spoiler featured on the MotoGP M4 Safety Car and instead resemble the protuding front spoiler lip and elevated trunk wing from the E92 M3 GTS.
The prototypes … CONTINUED
The BMW 1 Series M Coupe came in only 3 colors, but many felt that it should have come in a 4th color – a shade of blue.
This is how the 1M would have looked if that had happened.
Here’s a first look at the many IMSA liveries for the 2015 racing season, including BMW’s Z4 GT3s and various other teams.
BMW M has a new boss, Franciscus van Meel, and he recently shared his first public statements with Auto Express on some topics regarding BMW M.
Van Meel, the former head of Audi Quattro GmbH, is of course well versed with all-wheel drive, and he seems to be favoring the use of all-wheel drive in future M5 and M6 models.

The lucky owner of a Laguna Seca Blue E46 M3 just got even luckier by taking delivery of the first Laguna Seca Blue Individual color F82 M4 to join his M3 in the garage.
Check out some great photos of both cars inside.
We knew the i8 was in high demand (relative to supply) and certain dealers were listing them for a premium price above MSRP, but this one takes the cake. Irvine BMW recently managed to sell an i8 for a $100,000 “market adjustment.”
This is one buyer who would not be stopped by supply and demand rules (and pricing) in obtaining an i8!
BMW has said that there is an 18 month waiting list for the i8 in some markets and the company is considering upping … CONTINUED
Petrolicious has produced the wonderful story of Dean and DonnaRae Caccavo, who have never spent more then $10,000 on a car. True to this philosophy, Dean bought his E28 M5 for $9,500 and has used it as a daily driver for 200,000 miles. But their E28 story doesn’t end there. I always thought I loved my BMWs, but they take it to a better level, watch the video and see what I mean
