BMW has earned an undisputed status as one of the world’s leading carmakers with developments – grouped under the BMW ConnectedDrive banner – focusing on every aspect of the link-up between the driver, vehicle and outside world. The company is underlining its position in the vanguard of technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 in Las Vegas. As you already know, the BMW M235i and 228i Coupes will be officially presented to the world at next week’s 2014 Detroit NAIAS, where we’ll be to bring you live coverage.

Das BMW M6 Gran Coupé Safety Car [more info] in Paris.

The M6 Gran Coupe serves as the current headline MotoGP Safety Car, but we expect the M4 Safety Car (and/or M3 Safety Car) to take its place as the lead Safety Car eventually. Our digital preview rendering of the M4 Safety Car is posted below.

BMW M is currently in its 15th season as the “Official Car of MotoGP” and provides the official Safety Cars to the premier motorcycle racing series.

Recent M cars serving as official Safety Cars include the M6 Gran Coupe, M6 Coupe, M5 Sedan and 1M Coupe.

BMW i3 review by Autoguide. The base i3 starts at $41,350 while the i3 REX (with Range Extender) starts from $45,200 (before the $7500 federal incentive).

i3 deliveries have already begun in Europe, while U.S. sales will begin in March.

Mercedes-Benz withstood a late surge from BMW, ending its rival’s two-year reign as the U.S. luxury-vehicle sales leader as the breadth of Mercedes’s lineup pushed it to a record year.

Mercedes posted a 17 percent gain in December with 33,007 deliveries, as the new entry-level CLA, and revamped mid-size E-class and premium S-class cars led the gains. For the year, Mercedes sales rose 14 percent to 312,534, or 3,254 more than BMW’s 2013 total.

This was only the second time Mercedes has won the U.S. luxury sales crown, according to the Automotive News Data Center. It earned its other title in 1999 when it sold 189,437 vehicles in the U.S.
