Two millionth engine to be built at BMW Hams Hall

Today, a four-cylinder 2.0L petrol engine will be the two millionth power unit to be built since production commenced nine years ago at the BMW engine production plant in Hams Hall, North Warwickshire.

The engine, will be transported to the Regensburg vehicle plant in Germany, built to order and ultimately destined for a British customer purchasing a 318i Saloon – the UKs best selling BMW model.

BMW has announced a comprehensive contingency award program for BMW cars and BMW-powered cars in the 2010 GRAND-AM series races. They have fared very well so far in the 2010 GRAND-AM series. BMW race cars took #1-2 positions in the 2010 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and #2 in the Rolex 24 at Daytona held Jan 29-31.

Katarina Witt to be Olympic ambassador for the BMW Group. Two-time Olympic winner and BMW Group campaign for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Munich.

Munich. As a National Sponsor of Munich’s Olympic bid, the BMW Group is turning to high-profile support from the sporting arena: two-time Olympic figure skating champion Katarina Witt (44) has been appointed the BMW Group’s ambassador in the bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

As part of this collaboration, Witt will be making public appearances on behalf of the BMW Group. She also chairs the Munich 2018 Bid Committee.

Currently, BMW/MINI engines are supplied from a partnership between BMW and Peugeot, and now BMW have signed an agreement with PSA Peugeot to continue the relationship indevelopment of a next generation 4 cylinder engine which would likely be found again in the MINI, but the application there is certainly not limited.

BMW came out with a profit in 2009 which is good news indeed, because I dont have to tell you how bad 2009 was for many people. Even better news is that BMW expects growth in 2010.

BMW posts pre-tax profit for 2009 in the face of poor economic climate with cost cutting measures.
50 million Euro drop in revenues as compared to 2008. (-4.7%)
10.3% drop in total BMW Group vehicles revenues as comapred in 2008 (relatively mild compared to the rest of the industry).
11.1% drop in total BMW vehicles sales. 6.8% drop in MINI.
BMW FS revenues increased 0.5%.
BMW plan single digit (percentage) rise in sales for 2010.
