BMW Groups design head Chris Bangle is quitting “to pursue his own design-related endeavors beyond the auto industry,” the German carmaker said Tuesday.
Adrian van Hooydonk, head of design for BMW brand, will succeed Bangle.
“Christopher Bangle has had a lasting impact on the identity of BMW Groups brands. His contribution to the companys success has been decisive,” said Klaus Draeger, BMWs development chief in a statement.

BMW of North America, LLC announced today an average price increase of 0.7 percent for BMW vehicles sold in the U.S. effective January 1, 2009. This action is driven by the ongoing structural and economical changes in the market place. At the Convergence 2008 conference on automotive electronics yesterday, BMW revealed it is looking for partners as it pursues an open-source car computing platform. The German company is enthusiastic about the potential for such an open-source systems potential to keep up with the rapid advances in technology and features in the multimedia and digital entertainment areas.

Without much further description, reports are out that BMW is now on board with large scale purchases of Brembo brake systems. Details on which cars, models or submodels would use such brake systems are sparse. However, first thoughts might be on BMW M-models, although cross branding on the ///M range may seem unlikely.
