The sales war posturing between BMW and its German competitors continues. Bloomberg reports that BMW has plans to hire Peter Schwarzenbauer, the former Audi AG sales chief. The report has Schwarzenbauer joining BMW next month, in a top level management position which will report directly to BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer.

BMW Manufacturing announced today the successful expansion of the company’s hydrogen fuel-cell material handling equipment across its 4.0 million square foot production facility. In 2010, BMW completed the installation of a hydrogen storage and distribution area near the plant’s Energy Center to power about 100 pieces of fuel cell material handling equipment. Since that time, the company has more than doubled its hydrogen-fuel cell fleet to approximately 230 units to service the entire plant’s production and logistics functions.

The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported February sales of 25,613 vehicles, a decrease of 2.2 percent from the 26,184 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago.

“The February results showed there’s a strong underlying demand ready to fuel momentum in the coming months,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “We’ll all be glad to leave the harsh February weather behind and welcome Spring and the new models that come with it.”

The integrated global campaign highlights the dynamism of BMW design and features a TV commercial that portrays the BMW Concept 4 Series Coupe in a highly dynamic way, using a surprising visual effect that is revealed at the end of the spot. The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported January sales of 20,195 vehicles, an increase of 2.3 percent from the 19,739 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago.

“After an historic December, January produced a good result showing our growth continuing,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America, LLC. “In 2013 we’ll have more new models, the right mix and better availability, so I’m very positive about the eleven months still ahead.”
