Base engine in the BMW 116i with a newly developed 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine that makes 100 kW/136 hp. For the same displacement, the 118i gets 125 kW/170 hp. A stronger four-cylinder engine (N20) with 250 hp will follow.
As for diesel, a two liter diesel engine will be available with three power levels of 85 kW/116 hp, 105 kW/143 hp and 135 kW/184 hp. The fuel consumption … CONTINUED
Its now literally a matter of days before the new 1-Series is revealed to the world. And the patent image masters at the jokeforblog have gotten their hands on the images of the upcoming 1er, including the crucial images of the front bumper, which looks to be the most dramatically changed styling element.
The 1er looks to now have a more wedge shaped headlamp design element which is a cross between the 5-Series GT and an E92 3-Series, with a design line that passes from the top of the headlight cutout to the top of the kidney grills, just as on the 5-Series GT. A line that will give the car a very mean and aggressive looking face.
Thankfully, the kidney grills look like they will retain … CONTINUED
BMW’s FWD 1-series model based on the FWD UKL platform has been spotted for the first time! The UKL platform is a FWD platform which the FWD 1-series will share with the next generation of MINIs (which coincidentally [or not] was also spied testing for the first time today).
The FWD 1-series will come in a traditional 5-door hatchback (pictured here), a sporting estate model, and a gran touring version. They’ve been referred to by insider Scott26 as the “City Compact,” the “F.A.S.T. Family Activity Sports Tourer,” and the “GT”. The rumored upcoming Z2 roadster will also be spawned off the UKL platform.
The FWD 1-series will join the rest of the 1-series lineup which in the next generation will include the F20 5-door sporthatch and the F21 … CONTINUED
From time to time, BMW trademark filings provide clues on future BMW models. Our latest finding could be related to the recent speculation coming from both Autobild and SCOTT26. BMW is said to be considering launching a 2-series line comprising of the 2-series coupe (F22), the 2-series convertible (F23) and M-variants of these cars. These are essentially the next generation 1-series coupe and convertible, but renamed as the 2-series.
As seen in the screenshots from the German patent office below, BMW has filed “M2″ and “BMW M2″ trademarks just a month ago. The same goes for the US patent and trademark office (USPTO) where BMW has filed the “M2″ trademark. It’s important to note that a trademark filing doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll actually use it for a … CONTINUED
Here’s a render of the 2-series coupe, which is what the next generation 1-series coupe and convertible will purportedly be badged as, while the hatchback 1-series and all new FWD 1-series models will retain the 1-series designation. More info via link inside. BMW 2 series coupe.
The F20 1-series hatchback’s online reveal is imminent - perhaps as early as this week, if not the next. But testing of the model’s FEP prototypes continues. This particular vehicle is the 5-door hatchback variant, which is the basis model of the 1-Series, and just as in the previous generation vehicle, this model will not make its way onto US shores. However, this car will serve as the basis for the entire 1-series lineup (and rumored 2-series lineup - More Info), with a 3-door hatch variant (also not expected in the US), coupe, cabrio, city compact, family activity sports tourer, and GT models (More Info).
BMW M will also have its hands at the new 1-Series and an M version should arrive 2-3 years after the … CONTINUED
Insider SCOTT26 previews the next generation of 1-series, 2-series, M2, and the long rumored Z2 compact roadster. The 1-series coupe and convertible will receive new 2-series badging, while the hatchback and GT models and retain their 1-series designations. An M2 (successor to current 1M coupe) and a Z2 compact roadster is also in the pipeline. Full rundown inside. BMW 2 series coupe
According to a new report from Autobild, BMW is considering reordering the nomenclature of their model lineup for consistency. If this happens, all sedan, wagons, and GT’s will get odd numbers. All coupes, convertibles and Gran Coupe’s get even numbers.
In other words, the successors of the E92 3-series coupe would become the 4-series coupe (F32), the E93 3-series convertible a 4-series convertible (F33). BMW had similar plans for the current generation E92 and E93 3-series but got cold feet for several reasons. Now the successful introduction of Audi A5 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe is reportedly making BMW reconsider the introduction of a 4-series again, says Autobild. If this pans out, this may be the next generation 3-series and 4-series models lineup. See inside. BMW 2 series … CONTINUED
