The BMW Group favoured a smooth transition when carrying out the generation change of the bestseller BMW X3. The end of production of the first generation of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) was celebrated at the plant of the Austrian production partner Magna Steyr in Graz yesterday. Production of the new BMW X3, which will be launched on the German market on 20 November 2010, will begin today at the BMW Spartanburg plant in the US state of South Carolina. What does the future of the BMW X portfolio hold? According to insider Scott26, BMW is keen on a potential X4 (think smaller X6) which shares technology with the X3, an X3 35iS sharing engine from z4 35iS and 335iS, and an X3M with motor from upcoming 1M Coupe.
BMW is shooting to sell 25,000 X3s in the U.S. for the 2011 calendar year, according to Insideline. For comparison, BMW sold 17,622 X3s in 2008. Also, custom ordered X3s will have exclusive options not available to off-the-lot models.
To better capture the U.S. market with the new BMW X3, BMW spent more time and effort on new North American owner friendly upholders than anyone would ever expect. Big Gulp fans rejoice. Seriously though, if this proves helpful to North American X3 sales, then it was money and time well spent.
Starting in the autumn of 2010, the BMW M GmbH product range will increase for the M3, F10 5-series, new X3, X5M and X6M, and the 7-series. Full details inside.

BMW is releaseing a series of videos surrounding the all new BMW X3. The videos first started with the exterior of the X3 but have now moved onto the inside detailing some of whats new in the X3 and certainly gives us a glimpse into the overall increase in quality and style from the previous generation X3.
Now that the 2012 X3 has been officially announced and shown by BMW, X3s are free to roam the streets naked, without their constricting and stuffy camouflage coverings. Spotted here in Munich are black and white X3s, the first real life photos of uncovered 2012 X3’s.
