BTW on E90Post a bunch of us like 4 or 5 wanted to do this, we started designing decals, stickers and t-shirts. the crew's name was RCH3P (real cars have 3 pedals)

I think admission should require some kind of act of that nature. I don't think you should be automatically be in the club just because you bought a 6MT M3. You should want to be in the club and do something to demonstrate your desire to belong to the organization. So, I'd say ChinoOrtega is the only true member at this point!

Actually, I have no idea whose idea this was. It might be something S and E started way back when. Swamp might have had something to do with the idea itself as well although he's never been in the 6MT camp as far as I can tell. Not sure how I ended up as the honarary president either since I don't even own a M3 yet. This is not about me; I honestly just want to serve the people (and work closely with GregW to siphon money from them via legitimate sounding fund raisers)! But, I don't really have a vision statement. :D

so, i guess lucid you came up with the idea right? what'd u have in mind? does it extend further than having a thread about it?

i dont know how to simplify my question, but do you have a "vision" statement lol
i know you dont know. you just told me you had no idea lol
im asking the others at this point lol
They don't know either, but it's okay.

Yes, E and myself had the idea to found the 6MT club. And yes, Swamp's desire for DCT might have played a role initially. :D

I started this thread to evolve this club. So keep the ideas coming, guys. A vision statement would be nice.

Fine, since you are photophobic, I revise my proposal to:

Have two lists maintained by you in the original post of the thread: eligible forum members who currently own a 6MT E9X M3, and (in bold or something dramatic like that) officially admitted forum members. People who make a post on this thread requesting to be initiated into the club make it to the latter category. We can say that posting a pic of the shifter or the third pedal is encouraged but not required. Note that the only requirement is ownership of a 6MT E9X M3, and we can determine that from 13eastie's thread? Not sure if he is still actively maintaining it though:

Honestly, didn't like the feel of the stock SW. It felt a little too fat and soft. and the nappa leather felt a little grimy in my sweaty hands and hot local weather (35 degrees celcius year round). The Nappa also stains quite easily. Road feel was an issue too cos of the thick padding.

Somehow, it just didn't feel right in my hands...

This SW is a custom job from a local guy. I also have a round Alcantara leather SW for track use - better grip, but worse for wear and tear.

Relative to the 6MT shifter:

Just got a call from Rogue Engineering. I had enquired about a future SSK for the E92 M3. Rogue makes a very nice kit for the E46 and other cars.

Basically, he said he had driven it and BMW actually did a pretty nice job on this car, and they would not recommend shortening the throws further. If anything, he said it needed a taller lever, because the stock knob is too low. Coming from someone in the business to sell these kits, that says something.

Meaning, just download the bitmap from the thread if you want to improve upon it. We obviously need to size it down to make it a sig. This is just a conceptual draft.

Wow, and to think I take flak for too much discussion and promotion of M-DCT... You guys have way too much time on your hands.

It took me 15 minutes--not much. It really is about collaborative ideation, the power of collective processing; which is what I teach and research! :) That proves that we've got a real club going here!

Coming from someone in the business to sell these kits, that says something.

hi... carrying over from a related thread.
imho, i feel that it's a little odd for Rogue to say something like that.

first gear requires me to extend my arm out a little too much for my liking (a little too far and too low, cos i'm a RHD) so a longer lever would require me to extend my arm out even more.

a shorter lever and/or knob would almost certainly reduce the reach/extension since a longer lever and/or knob would also increase the distance required for the top of the knob to travel, and i'm not sure if this is a good thing...

i agree that the stock shifter sits a little too low, but unless the entire centre consol/tunnel area can be raised (similar to the old Toyota MR2 which had a great height and feel), we're stuck with it.

thanks for the info and heads up.

cheers

You didn't speak to the throw length issue. Do you feel it's sufficiently "short"? Also, some have complained of the console interfering with shift action. Do you notice that?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I find the lever too short to rest my arm on the center console, I have my arm going over the handbrake area...

I would say the stock lever is definitely sufficiently short.

As the Predisent, I will put in place the following process for the club to pick its logo:

1. Mantis develops his version further.
2. We come up with at least another alternative (3 is a better number to chose from).
3. When they are finalized, I will start a poll with all the alternatives club members can vote for.

So far we have:

okay am i restricted to having the word "club 6mt" and having a shift pattern or can i try different stuff?

You should develop what you would like to develop. Diversity of ideas is best. I was just expressing my opinion. No need to stick to it. We want as many variations as possible represented in the poll, and we should have several. So, it might actually be better to go back to T 6 M as another alternative! You can propose multiple alternatives if you'd like. :)

P.S. I like the idea of trying different colors for the letters, what you were trying earlier. Messing with background colors would be good, too. I'm out of time on this one...

I think this is cool for a siggy, but I like Lucid's "clean" version for an avatar. You could replace the square portion on the far left of your current siggy with this charcoal one and I think it would look cool. PS the two E92 images on the right with JzB, IB, SSII, etc and you could crank out a whole family of siggies that are personalized to the owner's car color

You didn't speak to the throw length issue. Do you feel it's sufficiently "short"? Also, some have complained of the console interfering with shift action. Do you notice that?

Thanks for your thoughts.

just to clarify and make sure we're on the same page, i take "throw length" to mean the distance from engaging N-1st, 1st-N-2nd etc.. regardless of length/height of the knob. (ie a shorter knob only gives you the "feeling" that the throws are reduced, but in actual fact, only the knob travel is reduced.)

I think the stock throw length is a bit long. I'd prefer a slightly shorter throw length with a shorter lever/knob to enable quicker more precise shifts.

The only part of the console interfering is the i-drive controller. i do occasionally get a slight "brushing" of my forearm when shifting in-and-out of the even gears. nothing too irritating though, but if you have something on the i-drive monitor, this may cause a change in the selection. eg i-pod song toggle.

as far as i know, we shouldn't be resting our hands on the gear knob as this may cause some mechanical abrasions within the gears, so i try not to have my shifting arm near the console area when not changing gears (ie both hands on the s-wheel or my shifting arm on the arm rest).

how about yourself? any views on the throw length and knob travel distance?

cheers

South, can you make the letters white on the 4th one like Footie did? I think that would be a winner.
Here with white letters:

lucid: I like seeing people's different avatar's, if we all had the same, I'd have to start reading names. ;)

As pres. I hope you don't veto sig or pic being "optional".

Do people want an official logo, or should everyone go with whatever they want?

OK guys, we are getting there, but maybe some more time for final revisions. Once we are all set, I will start a poll so that we can determine the "Official" club logo, and then we all stick to it to preserve group identity.

Do you think it would make sense to have 2 seperate polls though? One for the sig, and another for the avatar?
Yeah, some more days would be cool (maybe even Poseidon will appear again).
As mantis says, maybe both avi and sig can be voted for in the same poll.

Do people want an official logo, or should everyone go with whatever they want?
+1 for an official logo.

Cool.....I should have cut my hair that day and perhaps bathed.

I have a pic of the Club 6MT outing....practicing heel-n-toe

Did you notice that every one in the 6MT Club looked fit and normal. And in the other photo

well I rest my case. :bellyroll

Considering you have never owned an ///M, this looks very accurate. Except the "Club 6MT bit".

You have photoshop skills but no driving skills. :D

Footie has once again managed to unleash T-bone upon himself, this time with the M-DCT hat photo, so I can't request T-bone to leave this thread alone on this occasion. However, in order to keep T-bone from posting disturbing images of hairy men running around in bikinis here as well, maybe Footie and T-bone should take this outside and settle things like real men by putting on a mud wrestling show?

Yes... and no...
I think some elements of the logo should be "offical" but I'd like to see it customizable too. Having everyone with exactly the same avatar will get boring in a hurry, and currently I know at a glance who's posting. If everyone's were the same this would be tedious. I personally would like to see an "offical" element (the H pattern for example) but allow people to mix it up (use a shift knob, overlay over a picture of their car, chalked vs. clean, etc)

My $0.02

I actually will not use the logo as an avatar once my car arrives (I'll use a pic of it instead). I am thinking more in the lines of a sig, but that's just me.

Ah, got it. Still think a common element with variations as members see fit is OK

OK. We could group similar images in categories, and vote for a category as opposed to a specific image. Then one can choose an image from the winning category. Would people be okay with that?

I think there should be one official logo.

Other designs can always be implemented for stickers, shirts, etc.

 Are the m-dct people copying our every move? I just noticed some "club M-DCT" logos that look similar popping up. :confused2 ;)
