View Full Version : Pitted C63 AMG against my E92 M3 (Pics and all)

Ok, for those of you that may be wondering, I had a great chance today to test drive a C63 AMG. In a nut shell, C63 is a faster car than the E92, absolutely NO question about that. The 63 pulls very, very hard with all that torque couple to a fabulous and very quick automatic transmission. The exhaust sound is fantastic, downshifting is a joy to do as the engine gurgles and pops. It is also a very, very stable platform at speed got to 240 kph in NO TIME!!! The seats and steering wheel are FAR nicer than those that we find on the E92. Now, at the end of the day however, the E92 enters and exits curbs at high speed much better than the 63 that suffer from understeer and forces you to slow down. Passing is surprisingly about the same in both cars since the M3, when reved, is a killer as well. General body style etc… E92!! End of the day, I like the M3, but not at all by a large margin.

Nice review, thanks for sharing. Your M3 with those rims are one of the hottest i've seen.

I agree, I still like the E92 M3 better, but MB has come a long long way with their C Class sports sedan.

The C63 looks awesome. Both of the cars are outstanding, I would love to have either one.

To the OP, your M3 setup is outstanding.

Props to Mercedes.

And Mantis, if you are out there, even the OP said that the C63 has better seats and a better steering wheel than the M3, so whether or not that is a fact, at least the OP is objective when offering his opinion as an M3 owner. Maybe this helps to establish the fact that the C63 does not have a "cheap" interior.

Thanks for the great pics and reviews. Must have been nice to compare those two great cars. I can not imagine much beating your M. That is one hot looking machine. Killer wheels!

BMW Mexico are you sure your car is 465hp. I cant help but think that you should have him if that is the case. Just look at how close an E90(heavier) M3 ran the C63 in the MotorTrend comparo. Did you notice any difference before and after the reflash? If the DCT turns out to be as good as hyped I can see an E92 DCT licking the C63. I cant agree on your comments on the seats either. I have been in both and have two reviews that say the seats in the C63 are too firm.

the c63 seems so unrefined to me. everything is blocky and the lines just don't match up when compared to the m3. the MB symbol up front is huge and those headlight washers must clean the whole damn car! thanks for the pics though...

If by faster you mean in straight line acceleration, point taken. Otherwise, I would bet you'd spank the C63 AMG at the "Autodromo" in lap times with your E92 M3 (Top Gear and MotorTrend at least have)

C63 is a good crusing machine but the M3 is a great all arounder track and date nights

i dont get how anyone in the US would know how the interior of a C63 feels [cheap] unless they sat in one at a car show or something  :confused2

A friend was considering the C63 and then he sat in one. He hated the "opel Zafira"interior. Otherwise awesome engine and sound!

The C63 interior looks good IMO in black only!! Still, you do have to see it, the seats are very, very nice!!!!

At present the C-class is the nearer thing to an Audi interior among the other two top German brands, it's materials (dash and seats) have a top notch feel about them that currently aren't there with the 3 series. The seats warrant special mention as they are a work of art, as is the steering wheel.

If Mercedes had provided a manual gearbox like that in the SLK then I could have seen it as a worthy alternative to me getting an M3 but being solely an automatic ruled it out right from the start.

Great car though with the looks of a DTM and the engine to match.

Wow, the C63 looks very dull in that color for some reason =/

The ///M definitely stands out, and yes I don't care if the C63 a bit faster - the ///M just owns in looks...

I like the front but it may be a bit over the top, they could have eliminated the fog lights all together for a cleaner look!

thanks for the review...pretty much backs ups what I was thinking. IMO the ///M looks a hell of a lot better then the c63 and i think your pictures back that up.

the c63 maybe better on paper in a str8 line but every AMG driver I have ever pulled up next to never seems to want anything to do with a little competition...mostly rich wives wearing oversized shades or corporate types too busy on the blackberry to pay attention to the road...

Hahahaha!!! I agree!!! I should say that I do own a highly customized mostly straight from Affalterbach C55 DTM AMG!!! It really pulls very, very, very hard, but, it is also a much more expensive car and even then, I like the M better when it comes down to curbs and the like!!!

Footie , this time I have to disagree with you big time. ;)
I've been in several C-classes and I wasn't impressed. It felt cheap and looked cold for a Mercedes. In the german trio the new C-class has the worst interior. The press seem to feel the same as me, particulary the german press.

I cant comment on C63 since I only seen the car from the outside but since it cost more than other C-classes I hope the interior is better because in normal C-classes I wasn't impressed at all.

Other than the interior I like the C-class. In Avantgarde trim the car is sexy and C63 is hot as hell to look at.

The interior of the C63 is very different from a regular C-Class, the seats alone set the interior in an entirely different stage/environment. You really have to see these. The steering wheel is also exceedingly nice with the big aluminum paddle shifters and the middle council has some improved gadgetry. The speedo and the like are also entirely different and the speedo actually turns red in order to up shift. Door panels etc… are also covered in Napa leather and real CF trim. Very, very nice!!!! Only thing that I found really ugly was the middle pop up screen!! Good thing it hides below a cover!!! Now the regular C-Class does leave something to be desired, but have you looked at the 325!!!!! I owed one for a couple of months and sold it, it sucks!!!!!!! Hahahaha!!!

yes I've been in various C-classes and various 3-series. 3-series is better overall. The new Audi A4 also has some cheap materials in some places, makes me wonder if Audi is starting to save money. I guess I have to buy a japanese car if I want quality ;) :bulge:

Hahaha!! Well, Japanese cars IMO are the best bang for your buck!!! Really!!! But I really do like German cars better even though the price tag is higher. At the end of the day, they feel better and are more fun!!!

There is things I like on both cars and things I don't like.

Since I wouldn't be tracking a heavy car like this. I would choose the C63 for driving on the streets. The raw power is just to much to pass up.

defnitely the M3 looks alot better for sure, but lets not all sing "gumbaya!"
and see that the emperor doesnt have better clothes.

MB, Audi and ISF of that matter marketing strategy is not to WOW! everyone on the street with its fender flares, wheels and such. They are more subtle road killers on the roads and some people like that.

AMG division for it 40th Anniversary promised and deliver a powerful blow of mass HP/TQ power to the market place this year. It is illustrated by it CLK55 in black edition and this new C63 AMGs.

We are not even talking about them with their optional Performance package optioned car yet. Lbs for lbs torque C63 has the nos and it can deliver it as illustrated by Motortrend Mano-Mano Comparo of the ISF. M3 and C53.

Yes the emperor has no clothes, lets be real. Which makes some of us think twice, well me at least. The last thing I would like to believe after my e92 /M purchase is that I am the king of my Class, and have a lady with a c63 AMG blow me away. Mind you, around 80-90% of this torque can be delivered at pretty much any RPMs, now thats something to think about.

Im still scare, but thanks to the company of my /M boys I feel safe. For in nos. there is strength. But are these the nos. we are just concerned about, lets ask yourselves that.

Today I've actually seen our areas first C63 in person at a local dealership service shop. The car is being prep-service for one patient customer who ordered it since last winter.

The car was in steel grey and black interior and I have to admit and commit :suicide: to say it does have that high end luxurous sports appeal.

I doubt that its market appeal would not be for most BMW M3 crowd that gathers in here
