Now offering high quality boost gauges pods and full install kits for the 335.

WWW.RIXEFFECTS.COM/groupbuy.htm to order

Guage Pod Kits include all the tubing, wiring, tap-ins, zip-ties and connectors needed to install the gauge. They also include full easy to follow instructions for installing. They also include the pod, and your choice of digital or mechanical gauges. This kit is specifically designed for the 335.

The project started by fiberglassing a gauge into the corner... but it took about 150 hours of sanding and reshaping to get it to where it is now... and then there was the leather texture, and having that survive the process of creating molds for production. I have years of fabrication expirience, and have created many custom car interior products, and projects...

This is a completly hand made peice, its just a replicated hand made peice... like a re-print of a peice of art... LOL

Pretty early on, I took my prototype to a plastic injection shop, and wanted to get quotes on having it made that way... I ran into several problems... the shape isnt compatible, no plastics matched the dash properly(because the dash is rubberized), etc, etc... which led me to a different process... reactive rubber molding. This is more of a "one off" method... where it takes over an hour for each peice to cure, and also must be poured and extracted by hand.

Right now these are made by hand, using the production molds. Its about a 2 hour process of mixing, degassing, pouring, de-molding, trimming, etc.. We can make them at a rate of 1-3 per day.

The rubber I use is a silicone based ultra strong rubber that was designed for the special effects industry. It costs $200 PER GALLON!!!

So... all that to say... you guys are going to get your money worth... this isnt just some cheasy plastic injected part from china... its got a personal touch of love from me to you

POD WILL FIT ANY 52mm boost gauge

Install is easy and completely reversible.

The digital gauge is very very accurate. 90% of my customers choose this gauge, because they want to know for sure an accurate reading above all else.

It uses a piezo-electronic sensor which responds faster and is more accurate. It adjusts itself for ambient pressure and ambient temp for pefect calibration at any altitude.

It also has the following features...

Peak recall
0.1 PSI resolution
Numeric and bargraph recall, with user-adjustable peak-display time
Integrated semiconductor sensor (no external sensor required)
Park-light dimmer
Bi-directional 12-segment bargraph AND 3-digit display
User-settable bargraph scale
User-settable day and night intensities (9 levels each)

ACTUAL PRODUCTION POD: (notice leather texture -will be on all pods) (Thanks to e90AW335i for the photo :D)

KIT:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=151150&stc=1&d=1209834310

From left to right, here is what you see:

- Numbered Certificate of Authenticity for the pod, hand signed by me. Because these pods are hand made, we have to reject close to almost 10% of them sometimes, so each one is approved by me.

- The pod, made of ultra strong silicon based rubber designed for the special effects industry, at a cost of $200 per gallon. It also gets a fresh coat of automotive UV protectant before getting sealed up, hence the shine on the leather texture.

- Your chosen guage. This photo is of the mechanical gauge, but the digital is availible as well, and the digital is what I personally prefer (which is why I am backordered on digital gauges!)

- Install instructions. Full pictorial instructions that take you step by step through routing the vacuum lines and hooking up the wiring. I even had my wife go over them to make them "idiot proof" (not that my wife is an idiot! ) but you enthusients should have no problems at all...

- Wiring Diagrams. Details wiring diagrams for how to hook up the power lines and dimmer lines to the gauges... (as if it wasn't easy enough already )

- Vacuum tubing kit from newsouth performance. I spared no expense... this is the best of the best of tubing kits, as recommended by several users and moderators on these forums.

- 3 conductor wire, quick disconnects, tap-ins, and heat shrink tubung. Everything you need to properly install the gauge, and even quickly remove it for dealer visits. The wire I chose has a slight stiffness to it... this makes it easier to "poke" it up through the a-pillar without the need for other wire fishing techniques. The digital gauge kit also includes a few resistors and a capacitor to "filter" the dimmer line from any noise, but this is of course optional, and your choice if you want to use the dimmer or not.

Yes, it turns on and off with the car, and you can easily add any standard switch as well, so that you can turn it off when not needed (long trips, etc). The instructions will cover this option, and show you mounting options and which wire to install the switch on, if you choose to add one

Is paypal still forcing you to randomly ship out 7 units to people, or its going to be shipped according to your original list? I can't wait to get this guage!!!

i will have to see the switch before i make the order. i do like the setup though alot and installation seems easy. just tuck the wire through like a v1 hardwire to engine bay and voila? any drilling, cutting, etc to tap into the boost pipe?

instructions would be nice too so ill be waiting for that.

There are vacuum lines running to the diverter valves... simply add in the included vacumm T, run the vacuum tube into the cabin, then wire the gauge like a hardwire v1... its that simple.

Its completely reversable with ZERO modifications that would leave a trace.

There are several boost gauge DIY's already, if you want to look at those, its basically the same, except I am just taping the 3 wires in the cigarette lighter plug for the hardwire, where others chose a more difficult route for some reason.

Here is the vacuum tubing that is INCLUDED in the kit.

What do you mean by "see the switch" ? What switch? No switch is needed for the install, it turns on and off with the car, you could add one if you wanted, but most people wouldnt.. the rest of your gauges don't have switches to turn them off

the power source is not in the engine bay but the lighter? confused on how wires are led down there. i will just wait and see pictures once the first batch is out.

and by switch i mean adding a switch to the actual mount to turn on/off. i was thinking of just putting something over it but a switch would look much better. it goes on/off during car but if i don't want it on you know?

also your gauge is the same one mr.5 had that has the orange glow similar to oem?

The wiring easily tucks under the dashboard.

Yes, its the exact gauge that Mr. 5 is using (the mechanical one). It has the clear lense and amber lighting as well, to match OEM.

Easter weekend messed me up, not to mention some of my supplies had to be reshipped because they were damaged in shipping :mad0259:

Well, looks like the plastics materials company dragged their feet on shipping the replacement for the one that was damaged in delivery...

This is what the UPS tracking is saying as of now...

Scheduled Delivery: 04/01/2008

After I get the material, I only need 24 hours before I could start shipping pods.

I wish there was something else I could do, but right now this is pretty much all I am waiting on.

I hope to get a lot more shipped out in these first few weeks of april, maybe even all of them if possible.

Depends on how things go today with attempting the first actual sample run with the production molds

I have about half of the gauges... the rest are still backordered. Right now I am waiting to check on the outcome of the latest small production batch. Materials arrived in good shape today, but because of the cold weather, we have to let it rise to room temp gradually, and that takes about 12-24 hours.

I will have about 8-10 pods in hand tomorrow night, hopefully they are up to par, and I can ship them.

I will be getting them in a few hours... turns out we were only able to make 3 right now. We are waiting for them to come out of the molds as we speak... they have a 75 minute curing time because of the reactive molding process, which must be RTV'ed.... (room tempurature vulcanized)

If I end up shipping a couple of these first units, if they pass my tests, those people will get a PM from me

if not, then I will have another round of pods pumping out next week.

Keep in mind guys, anything before end of april should be considered "early"... since the original group buy was set for april delivery... ;)

Its my job to make sure that I don't let these get into your hands until they are exactly the way I want them, and an exact replica of my prototype... and anyone that has made molded objects before knows that it takes lots of time, and lots of tries. But things are good!

a few pods ship tomorrow, and then the molds go to my professional mold maker Andy, who will be cranking them out for me in a large batch, which will ship end of april, as the original group buy terms.

This is the only way for me to get all the original group buy members who had their name on original list shipped in april, as the terms stated. More recent orders will ship in the following week.

Thanks guys!

You need to pull the wires and vacuum tubing tight from where the wires are snaked through from under the A-pillar cover...The tension from the wires and the vacuum boost line will kind of pull the pod towards the corner...I had the same problem and thats what I did.. Tyr it out

As CN555 said... This will happen if you get too much slack because the extra wire and tubing is "stiff" and keeps it from squishing in place.

Pull the extra slack out as you squish it DOWN under the window and back towards the hood... and then keep the slack all under the dash, where you pull the wires from (easy access if you pop the driver side vent off too). Its very important to pull ALL the slack off the dash, there should be no slack at all, because it will get in the way of proper fitment.

If you do it this way, it will not move... I have installed 3 personally... and they are rock solid, not going anywhere, without forcing them out. If you want to keep it stuck further, you can use rubber cement towards the back of the gauge... it will just peal off if you want to remove it.

So whats the word on a 60mm pod?

I tried a few things over the weekend, and basically 60mm just makes the pod not fit as close to the A-Pilar as it is now, because of the space between the glass, etc. It bulges too much, and has too many fitment issues...

I was going to work at it a bit more this weekend, some creative trimming might make it work...

Hi Rixst3r,

So around what spot of the GB will you be able to ship by tomorrow. Just an estimate. I was #30 last time I checked. Just dont say anything compromising, a conservative estimate will suffice.

Thanks

I didn't make it to 30 with the digital kits because of the VEI backorder I only had 10 digital kits ship so far... I am set to get more in early next week, and then yours will ship!

Cool mod. The placement of it is exactly where I have my Valentine One hidden display mounted. Do you think there is room in the pod to mount the small housing display?

Thats funny you mention that I have been talking to Rick about this recently.

the v1 display is too large, and would require modification to fit into the pod. Or I would have to make a bigger pod, which would be an undertaking I cant take the time now for, since I am concentrating on fullfilling existing orders.

Thanks for the understanding... great idea though guys...

We've got about 6 units out in the last 48 hours, I was hoping for more, but its a lot of work... There is still 14 more going out before the week is over... if you haven't got a PM from me, there is still a chance it will happen before the weekend, or today.

Got my POD looks great. I was one of the people that already had a gauge not installed yet. I wonder do you have the install and wiring directions online, they did not come with my POD. Thanks.
