I was just wondering if anybody else has run into this? Sometimes while listening to my iPod, the system will switch over to the radio. Is it something that I'm doing? It's not that big of a deal, but I hate having to switch it back over and then it starts on a completely different song on the iPod. :sigh:

Oh dear. Thats disappointing to read this. This has being a problem with all previous generation ipod interfaces from BMW across the model range ... including the previous generation E46!!

I was sure BMW had addressed this issue with a software update for MOST cars including the new M3.

Does your M3 have i-Drive or the regular in-dash Radio? How many times has it happened? Were you doing something in particular with the radio or i-drive when it happened?

Your M3 should have the latest software, so most probably your problem could be an old 6FL cable delivered with your car. Just contact your dealer...

Hmm, thanks for the information. I'm sure it's probably just an old cable. I'll check to see if the part number for my cable is the same as the one posted in the message when I get home tonight.

Yeah, my car has idrive. I don't remember doing anything at all when it switches over. The only thing would be using the steering wheel buttons to skips songs.

no it's not an old cable... iDrive with iPod, iDrive with any phone, iDrive in general has a 50-50 chance of operating correctly. maybe 70-30, but it's random like that

im saying iDrive has a very random behavior, very inconsistent and it often experiences random switches to radio, or shut down of iPod and sometimes it just refuses to see iPod, or the phone. it used to drive me nuts. even after software updates

Well, there is a new cable and an SIB to fix this particular issue and a full thread of members satisfied with the fix. Phones in particular have sometimes issues with pairing and not the car, and mostly depends on the BT implementation -or limited thereof- from the Cellular carier. And releasing an adapter -or any device- that works 70-30 doesn't sound to me like a good idea for any manufacturer.

Perhaps you have a particular issue that your dealer has not correctly determined its cause and this adapter is being afected by it?

maybe! i am hoping things are fixed since 07. the thing is i had the same phone running fine on my G35, at the same time it doesnt always work on iDrive on a 07 335, and a 08 528. so i was assuming it's iDrive.

i honestly hope what you are saying is right, i'd love it to work fine

Phones are something else, as cellular carriers and not BMW are the ones that set the Bluetooth profiles for transmission inside the phones. Manufacturers set mostly the basic profiles (headset/headphone) for receiving. Therefore you will find cases like yours that a particular phone will work with X car and not fully in Y car mostly because your particular cell carrier disabled/modified some features in the BT profile in that phone.

For example, the main issue with BT phones and OEM BT systems is phonebook transfer. Because the same profile that transfer data could be used to transfer photos then some cell carriers tweak that profile to disable any transfer of data... they want the cell customer to pay to transfer data. Thus you will see phones that simply do not transfer any phonebook. Other times you will see issues with pairing if the software is not updated to be compatible with the latest OEM BT units.

You could check if you phone is "approved" to use with your BMW TCU/Assist system here: http://www.wireless4bmw.com/phones2.html ...that could be also the reason of your phone problems.

About your iPod switching to FM, I would advise you to check again if your vehicle has that SIB performed and your cable is the newest one. Probably your dealer did not have those solutions yet when they tried to fix your issues.

Hmm, I just checked the cable that was given to me by my dealership. The PN is 61 12 0 440 796. This isn't the same number that was in the other thread. Is this an old cable?

It looks like you have the latest cable; I did a search for P/N 51 41 9 142 455 (shown in the link) and it shows a part number for a "nut". :confused2

Other solution in the same link/thread included replacing the MULF-2 unit in the car.

So it is dealer time for you... this is a known issue for months, so your dealer should fix it in no time. :thumbdown

My LG Dare was working just fine until two days ago. Now the phone rings over the car speaker system and when I go to answer the call, the music starts playing instead of hearing the call. It is paired with no problems otherwise.

So, I did a hard re-boot on my phone, deleted the connections, made new connections and now everything works again!?!?! :)

Is there any chance you have the radio set for auto switching to traffic management broadcast? Here in Europe at least, various radio stations issue broadcasts that are encoded in some way that they are recognised by car radios and the like and will briefly override any other audio if you have set the radio to pick them up.

COuld this be the cause of your switching?
