I have had white in the past and hated seeing all those black spots from rocks/debris chipping the front bumper.

Any M owners going to protect their front bumpers/hood w/ some sort of clear layer?

Or are they going natural and letting the gravel/debris chip the paint away?

I will be going naturale with AW. TBH I kinda get the impression that clear bra protection is not so popular in Europe.

Clear bra has its side effects...dirty lines around the outside of the actual bra come to mind...

Help me out here but I thought that the 3M stuff can yellow and really show on AW versus the darker paint colors.

My buddy had a clear bra on his R32 and I didnt notice any yellowing. I did notice that after a while dirt got under the leading edge of the bra. Eventually there was a line of dirt along the whole leading edge.

Paint chips are gonna happen....

I guess it depends on the quality of the roads where you live. I live in the Seattle area and the roads are great. There is very little sanding of the roads, and very few freeze thaw cycles to break up the pavement like you would get in colder climates. Plus it does not got so hot that the pavement softens and becomes airborne.

Do the entire hood instead of just covering part of it. The dirt will not be as noticeable

the new films are better than ever - but white and silver show the film the most. silver shows some yellowing and white will show dirt if it gets under the edges. either way a quality film installed right should look good and IMO will look much better than rock chips.

my M3 will have it as do my other two cars.

I've planned to put it on asap I get the car. I just can't stand any more stone chips from the track!

I had the full bumper and the 20% hood on my e46 and I got hood chips from the track above the film.

I had my entire hood and fenders done with Ventureshield film. Can't even tell that the clear bra is there and because it's full coverage, there are no edges on the surface to trap dirt. I think it's a worthwhile investment to avoid rock chips and other debris damaging the paint. The key is to find a good installer - that makes all the difference.

Here's my take based on my cars and my experience with what's needed

whole hood on my m3, m5, gallardo, r8, cgt, f430. After 1 broken windshield on the R8 and a nasty gouge on the hood, this is an absolute must for the Audi.

nothing on the hood on my wife's Range Rover Supercharge. The truck just sits too high imo to need anything up there. On the Q7, however, I didn't and I'm starting to see chips on the edge. No marks on the RR after 7k miles.

My buddy has a LegGT and he 3M'd the front. It's still clear. 3M's not supposed to fade, and I think it's actually listed in their warranty.

Seriously considering the Ventursheild product for my AW M3, it looks to be impressive quality and comes with a lifetime warranty (last time I check 3M was only 3 years?).

you should check out there website. http://www.ventureshield.com
