You dont need an extra part but there is a cradle to insert and charge the iphone as well as allowing for use of the external antenna but it is not required for the iphone.

Yes it will. You need BMW Assist with BT and 6FL. THe 6FL will charge the iphone as well.

If you're using the iPhone for your music, can you put it in the cradle or does it hook up to a separate power source? I asked this before, but wanted to make sure from current users. I assume that the cradle means no audio.

I have not seen a cradle for this phone. I did the sunglass conversion so I lost my console cigarette lighter, however my car charger fits it's a bit tight in the arm rest. As long as it works I'm cool with it.

There are different levels of compatibilty, many phones, especially nokia don't do phone book transfer very well.

Does anyone know if the iPhone's SMS feature works with the Nav screen via bluetooth? When you receive an SMS while driving, does it display on the navigation screen?

I used to have a Motorola Razr and was able to view SMS messages via the nav screen in my E46 330Ci convertible when my phone was connected via bluetooth. When I got the iPhone, it didn't work with the ULF module in my car. Now that my M3 is on the way, I want to be sure I get this functionality back.

Anyone know if it works?

Nokia E71, pairs and uploads phonebook just fine. But will drop bluetooth connection during calls.

I did some experimenting, if I drive around town, (in a small area), connection is preserved. But if I'm say on the highway, perhaps when the phone needs to handover to another cell, bluetooth drops and the phone unpairs itself from the car
