Introducing the ar design BMW 135/335/535 Bomb Proof Metal-Clad 2.5in Downpipe/Exhaust Gaskets
Don't get caught re-using the restrictive factory gaskets or trying to fix a leak with hi-temp RTV on your performance downpipes and cat-back - our custom made gaskets feature:
Metal-clad bomb-proof gasket material. Made and cut right here in the USA!
Totally eliminates those persistent exhaust leaks from downpipe to catback connections.
Feature a 2 1/2in internal diameter, unlike the 2 3/8in internal diameter factory gaskets. If you are using an after market cat-back and downpipe, this is especially important!
Gaskets are re-usable.
Price is per gasket. 2 required on most applications
OEM gaskets at BMW dealer cost over $17/gasket, and many do not stock them! We have these in stock, ready to go!
Compatible with any downpipe/cat-back that uses the factory style downpipe flange, and work great on a factory exhaust system as well!
Now available at $15.99 each! You can order on our website https://www.ardesign.info/catalog/335i-metal-exhaust-gaskets-aftermarket-downpipes-p-87.html, call us, or send us a PM!
Thanks!

do you guys offer thicker ones? because I know that the RR catless DP's leave a pretty big gap, and it needs to be tightened a bit for it to be sealed.. would be safer down the road if people with RR Dp's could get thicker gaskets so that they can avoid future leaks, just FYI.

These are 1.85mm thick, which I believe is quite a bit thicker than OEM.

Andrew, why aren't you guys promoting your 335i 3" Downpipes ???
They look amazing and by the looks of them they would flow better than most other manufacturers setups out there.
Sorry I know it's the wrong thread but do you have any Dyno specs on these. I'm really interested in these.

Give us a call for more info. We are going into production end of this week/next week, and I do not want to promote something I do not have in stock yet, but yes, they are amazing :)

Can you please explain to me what the point of these are? I'm just trying to learn. Do they basically seal the piping better? I would be interested in anything that would make the install perfect. Thanks
ar design
04-26-2008, 04:55 PM
These have a 2.5in internal diameter, versus the 2 3/8ths OEM gasket, so they allow for better flow. Assuming you have a 2.5in catback, using a 2 3/8ths gasket would cause a restriction.
They also seal up better than the OEM gaskets, are re-useable, cost less than the OEM gaskets, and are quite a bit thicker, so if the downpipe you are using has any defects it can help compensate for them, to an extent.

Correct. Is there a need for turbo > downpipe? We can certainly make them

Yes.

What seems to be the issue? The factory turbos have a gasket that should take of any sealing issues as long as your downpipe flange is not warped severely.

Shouldn't be hard at all, I have done it. Just have to remove belly pan.

i'm getting my exhaust very soon, but i have stock downpipes. is it any better if i got those gaskets or is it not recommended since i have stock downpipes?
ar design
05-10-2008, 01:16 PM
These will work great with stock downpipes and an aftermarket catback as well. Much better than re-using the OEM gaskets, or the OEM gaskets + RTV as some manufacturers are reccomending.

05-11-2008, 08:21 PM
how is it better?
my exhaust will be a 2 1/2" exhaust system and since these gaskets are 2 1/2" it will allow provide less restriction, right? But thats assuming the stock downpipes are 2 1/2 inch also (i'm not sure whats the internal diameter of the stock downpipes) but if the stock downpipes are 2 3/8" then I don't see how your gaskets are gonna be better than the OEM ones
id be really thankful if you can clarify since i'm not very familiar with some things.
Thanks

Another thing, the difference between 2.5" and 2.375" is just 0.125" which is about 3mm, so would 3mm difference in diameter make a difference in the flow? btw I'm not trying to attack your product in anyway, but I am actually interested in this product and just curious to knowing more about it before I might buy one
Thanks again

Just wanted to offer props to AR Design. My buddy had an exhaust leak, put AR gaskets in, problem solved. It was that simple. AR Design provided prompt, professional service and my friend was 100% satisfied with his purchase and would buy from AR Design again and again and again. I took his advice to heart and ordered my gaskets for my leaky exhaust as well and AR Design was again prompt with the service and I got my gaskets within a few days of ordering them. I will post a report once I get them in. Thanks AR!

The stock downpipes/catback are roughly 2 and 3/8in ID. Our exhaust products have a 2.5in ID flange, so using the OEM 2 3/8 diameter gasket will be a restriction.
Regardless, I highly prefer new gaskets to re-using an OEM gasket with high temp RTV as some manufacturers are currently reccomending.

If you were a customer, I'd probably do it no charge - its a 15-30min job tops. Most of the time will be spent jacking the car up or putting it on the lift and removing the belly pan. Once the belly pan is off, remove 4 bolts, drop out old gaskets, drop in new gaskets, replace bolts and you're done!

its not making sense to me. now say i have 2.5inch diameter aftermarket exhaust but i'm using stock downpipes okay? now put the gasket aside. the 2 3/8inch piping of the downpipes will eventually merge with the 2.5inch exhaust like you just said, right? so if it is eventually gonna become a 2 3/8 piping then having a gasket that has a 2.5inch diamter wont really do any difference wat so ever because as soon as the air flows from the 2 3/8 downpipes it will go to through the bigger 2.5inch pipes in no time and only a gasket which is only 1.85mm thick wont really make difference, its not like your changing 1 meter long piping from 2 3/8 inch piping to 2.5inch.
im not an engineer or anything but i think anyone with minimal physics background can figure it out

Sorry, I did not state things clearly - you are correct - there will be no difference in flow when using a factory downpipe with an aftermarket catback or an aftermarket downpipe with the factory catback. The only time the factory gasket would be a restriction is with an aftermarket downpipe + catback.
However, they provide a much better seal with any of the above combinations, and work great even with a totally stock system.

it makes more sense that way, if you have a downpipe and an exhaust then it could make very minimal difference, otherwise its not worth it i guess unless you experiencing some leaking
thanks for the replies though and clarifying things to me and everyone else :)

I would still use them even if I had stock cat-back because the stock gaskets are known to suck + fail which = FAIL. For the price, my advice is to just buy them for the peace of mind.

I can see your point, but I've never seen a thread or a post on this website nor the other about a single person having issues with the stock gasket except you. That means its something that is very rare to happen, I hope your issue is fixed now but I'd rather spend those $30 on a couple of gallons of race gas for the drag to be honest with u
