OK, here's a lame one...

When I :sign0012: checking in the "Maintenance" section, I could not find where the transmission fluid fill location was. It seems they forgot to show us this? :confused2

Does anyone know if it's the ~17mm screw on the driver's side of the transmission? GregW you out there?

TIA

You know I am...I don't have a life! Just kidding.

The following diagram shows the oil pump (#1) and screw filter (#2) just in front of the pump. "The gear oil is replaced and the screw oil filter is checked or cleaned during the running-in inspection, and later according to service specifications (estimated after every third engine oil change)."

They don't want mere Owners messing with this stuff! The filler is generally about midway up on the side (right, I think) of the gearbox (17mm sounds about right). Capacity is a little less than 2 liters, I believe, but I don't have exact specs.

The current fluid is MTF-LT-3 and comes in a 5-liter size (#83-22-7-533-818). If you bring your own container the parts dept. should sell you 2 liters.

Heh, heh, heh...from my secret archives! Actually, a lot of the technical stuff I've posted comes from this wonderful document, one of the only ones I've seen that has some good detailed info on at least some technical aspects of the car:

http://www.bimmerfest.com/pdf/BMW-M3-Aftersales-Training--Information.pdf

The stuff on the filler and lube type is from personal experience.

Thank you Greg. That's exactly what I was looking for...I've also wondered where you got these beautiful diagrams.

Sorry, about "expecting you to be there" it's just that you always seem to have the correct answer, usually accompanied with the respective diagram...

Thanks again for coming through with this.
