As many of you know RRI tested an 07 coupe earlier:

They just posted some new charts for an 08 sedan:

As expected, they are inline with the earlier coupe results.

Those seem perfectly in line!!! DIN/SAE measurements it seems! Maybe a bit too accurate. Hahaha!!

They correct for temp and pressure differences according to ISO 1585 standards. If you download the detailed sheets, you can see the correction factors at each rpm for each test. That's why I like their published results; it allows one to compare across brands/models etc. by going to one website.

Well, I was about to call repost on myself, but then realize that was posted under the Media forum, so I'm OK I think?

South, does RON 98 have a translation to octane rating? If so, what would this be?

Did anybody notice the following from looking at the RRI raw data?
* Three gears were used: 6th, 5th, and 4th. Readings 1000-1500 RPM were in 6th; 2000-7800 RPMs were in 5th, 8182 RPM was in 4th.
* Ambient temperature fluxuated 5 degrees during the test -- indicating that it was done over an extended period of time.
* Humidity changed 6% during the test -- again indicating that it was done over an extended period of time.
* It was a steady-state test, where each RPM test point was run for 5 seconds. This technique might be better than an RPM ramp (under load), but is somewhat artificial. If anything, it is closer to the technique used on an engine dyno at the factory.
So here's what it all means to me. Even though these numbers look pretty impressive, it looks like there's some monkey-business going on...in order to get them. Am I just paranoid, or does this stuff really matter?

Yes, 98 octane. That's also the recommended fuel for the M3 in Europe.
