I changed my mind on colour combo etc etc. Now have extended leather, premium sound, rear blind & a higher on road price that comes with it.

Collecting the new DCT-M3 Friday 10am - then I'm taking the rest of the day off :party0030:

Thanks!

The car I originally ordered is still coming late August. I just decided on a different colour spec DCT when I saw one was available & IMO it looks hot!

Hey LuKe,

Did you receive a postcard type letter with chasis number etc. saying this is your car's DNA.
If so how long ago was that as i received mine last week with ETA mid Sept.
How did you change your options your car must of been on the boat the last 6 weeks or so?

Androo
07-29-2008, 09:54 PM
Where'd ya see it?? or did you grab that vert?

LuKe450
07-29-2008, 09:58 PM
I never received anything about the cars DNA..

I saw the car at my dealers in South Yarra & thought wow I like that combination. Then I asked if it was available & it was.

I saw the silver DCT vert & that thing looks mean but I'm not a vert type of guy so I never asked about it.

They just called & said it may not be ready until 12pm Friday because of the tint job..

I'll take pictures & post something up on Monday

Androo
07-29-2008, 10:03 PM
Sweet!
Is there a few DCT's around now then? So the vert has arrived, might need to go have a look. Then again that could be a bad thing...lol

Having seen Luke's new car I can say it is very smart. Of course I got told off for sitting in it before he did but hey - what's a showroom demo for!!

Also had a drive of the DCT convertable. Nice - will take some getting used to but love the downchange blips. Quite unlike earlier automated manuals, such as the Selespeed, with a very fast up/down rev cycle. I guess it must have a very light flywheel.

Androo

So c'mon spill the beans, what colour is the car???? interior??? etc???

aggie57 so its a tricky box to get used too or a day of driving it should be ok. Did you have to book to take it for a spin or just turn up.

What do you know.... it was ready a day early!!

First impressions are that it's more than I expected. I'm very happy! It is difficult to keep it under the 5,500rpm :party0030:

P.S. I'm not very good at taking photos..

Thanks Androo. The beige interior contrast is the nicest part, oh, & that bonnet BUMP is all you see as your driving along! :party0030:

Slim line plates! They're a few bucks extra but worth it imo.

Make sure to tell us when yours arrives. We should meet up for a coffee & have em all lined up..

P.S. the traction control was activating between 3rd-4th this morning (in the wet) :happyanim:

That would be great to all catch up, go for a cruise and have a photo shoot. I was speaking with my business partner, he has a JzB arriving the same time as mine and i mentioned to go for a spin up the Dandenongs or something, the weather should be nice around December:thumsup:

Last night (wet roads) while turning left I put my foot down about half way & the back end 'snaked & weaved' while hammering down the road as the traction control was keeping everything in check! I love this car :happyanim:

Sounds like we need to take you to Winton so you can find out exactly what the car can do.....once the 2000km service is out of the way of course.

I'm up there on Sunday with the Alfa Club. Lets hope we don't destroy as many cars as last time at Phillip Island. The count there was 3 - a 105 Alfa, an Alfetta GT and a Z4 only a few months old.

I know Winton, Broadford & P.I. well from my bike racing days. I'll leave my car parked while I take BMW's M3's out for my M Driver Training day later in the year :D

I hear its towards the end of the year around December.. Would be good if there's a few of us from this forum at P.I. on the same day!!

I'm sure Jason & Sean @ Stillwells could see to it that we're paired up..

Are you going to the X6 launch on Saturday 16th? If not, you know what to do..

welcome to the forums neraij

So the next drive day is December? We were booked in awhile ago but couldn't make the date due to work commitments so our rep was going to book us into the next one. Hope its the same as you guys.
Just received an email this morning our cars were completed last week:happyanim: Now the torture of waiting for a boat:sigh:

Likewise - welcome neraij. It looks like we're getting quite a group now in Melbourne. Interesting given so many of the forum members in the states don't seem to have seen another one on the road.

Luke - no, no invite to the X6 launch. I may well be in NZ that weekend anyway but thanks for letting me know.

thx for the welcoming msgs .. just curious on what colour n extras u guyz got on ur cars.

i got e92 alpine white(best color imo) :P novillo fox leather. m-DCT, 19", electric rear blinds and the black carbon trim.

i really hope i miss that august month in europe where they all take a month off.. i mean it says production month in july n eta is september still havent got a proper date yet.. finger crossed for a good date :p

Androo
08-04-2008, 07:19 PM
Hey neraij,

Looks like we're getting the same car:cool!:

I got the same story about production as well. They said it had been pushed into August prod, i panicked and emailed BMW in germany. I know alot of forum guys mention they close in August but it is only from the 4th - 16th for normal series cars and they specifically said the M division does not stop production at all.
So i was like  but then a week later they said my car was being built last week of July:happyanim:
We're probably be on the same boat.

Which dealer did you purchase through?

Androo
08-04-2008, 07:24 PM
Did you guys watch Top Gear last night?
They had the Audi RS4 and Benz C-63 up against the M3. The C63 is an animal of a car but the handling looked shocking, the M3 beat it around the track by 4 seconds yay!! not much to say about the Audi

I saw the tail end of Top Gear. Too bad they weren't testing the M-DCT.... probably would have been a 8 second difference ;)

Yep - now my wife wants me to change my order to Grey. Loved the "cockometer" and Clarksons shades. But they cut his comment that "all the others are copies of the M3" or something like that.

I started with Silverstone, changed to White and now can't decide...! I have until September to finalise spec so I guess I'd better look at as many as I can between now and then.

Good to meet you Luke - and thanks for paying! I stilll think I'll stick with the sedan though. Nice as the coupe shape is I would really miss the extra practicality and anyway, it's cheaper!

Oh i forgot to ask, I've read on a few post some of the guys are stalling there DCT at intersections etc. any such problems Luke?

How long did it take for your plates to arrive once ordered?

I know what you mean aggie57I was originally IB but i reckon if i had seen a MR I probably would of jumped at that. No idea how I ended up with AW.

Aggie asked me today how I found the DCT for normal city commuting. After getting straight out of a current model X5 TD auto, this is better, much better. No stalling. Not even a hint. Only issue I'm faced with so far is all the rubber neck drivers crowding around me..

Plates took about 10 days for memory. Maybe less.

hey Androo, umm i got mine at bibs at south yarra. initially it was supposed to be like december delivery but pulled a few string :P n got it to september considering we only bought in like may so its only like a 6month wait compared to some others which is 9month :P. but i called em up this morning n asked if they knew an exact date of the delivery n they still dont know yet. quite agitated LOL. hope to hear from them soon n get an exact date so i can set aside some time to drive it hehe

the sbs m3 vs c63 vs rs4 is so old though... there are heaps more videos about the m3 on youtube. overall it is a AWSOME car.

Yeh i have seen plenty of clips on the M3 dunno if thats a good thing as it makes me even more eager to get behind the wheel.
Just hope my car gets on a boat soon, have read some ppl say their cars were at the dock for upto 12 days waiting for a boat.

Hey Luke,

Short answer is, I didn't find out pricing or delivery costs.

Since purchasing the IB & not the AW one I'm happy to leave the CF grills off it. If I'd bought the AW with carbon roof I'd have bought them for sure. Couldn't be more than $500 landed surely..

There's a small car wash place in Prahran called Muck Off, 9.5/10. It's near the Safeway carpark & Babble Cafe. Go there.

The one on Punt Road near Commercial Road I rate 7/10. The one on Hoddle Street Collingwood 7/10 but has crap coffee & a cramped waiting area.

The Montague Steet SMelb one is one to give a miss if you don't like other people finding the maximum volume on your car stereo..

Are you using http://www.2wglobal.com/www/WEP/index.jsp ?? They shipped my wife's X3.

I also used www.sailwx.info and www.vesseltracker.com but neither had much information really.

In terms of car detailers, we use the magic car wash at Victoria Gardens. They know us now and seem responsible with the car, plus you can have a mocha at GLoria Jeans upstairs while you wait. Oh - and there is a Telstra hotspot there as well which is great to get some work done at the same time.

I went onto here,

http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppTracking/

It is showing my M3 has left Germany, has been to England and France.

Heading down near Africa as we speak

When you go onto the site, where it says “track by” click on RoRo Cargo (roll on roll off cars)

In Cargo ID enter VIN number or Chassis number of vehicle, press enter.

It will tell you if vehicle is loaded etc.

If you want to see where it is, there should be a code under the Vessel’s name, click that once and it will show you what ports the ship has been too.

Yeh it's the same site aggie57 I'm on a ship called TOSCA

I'm use to it because it's on my current model X5 so I've been using it for 18 months anyway.

It's very easy to use. Only negative point I can think of (for me personally) is I'd wish for it to have a quicker response between spinning the wheel & pressing the wheel. Seems (IMO) to be a little slow.

My DCT has done just over 1000kms so yesterday I thought I'd give it a 8000rpm blast out of a corner into a straight section of road. WHOLLY SHEEEET does this thing move. And the sound it made :happyanim:

Hi guys.... First time posting here, and just received the call from my dealer to say that my JB DCT will be in the dealership today. Its pretty much loaded 19" wheels, high end sound, ski bag and sunroof.

Bit of luck i should have the keys and driving it by Friday.

Just traded a 335i that i have had for nearly two years and this is my first M series cant wait.. This board has lots of good info and hope to be around more.

I have been, to the letter. Just a couple of times its hit 6,500rpm & only once gone to 8,000rpm the other day, it had to be done

Exactly - why did you wait this long Luke??!!

I wanted to wait until it had done 1,000kms then gradually use a bit more of the rev range. I rarely get it over 4,500rpm & my average fuel usage is now at 14L/100km.

I wonder when us Melbourne crew will get the M day.. Probably just before aggie gets his car :D

I was waiting to turn from Commercial Rd onto Punt Rd (Prahran) the other day & saw a new AW M3 driving towards & past me. We gave each other the M3 wave

Probably right Luke. Stillwells have been very quiet lately but someone on the E90 forum said that pricing for the 09 cars should be released in Australia in the next week or two. Hopefully no longer as I'm off to the US for two weeks on the 14th and don't want to miss a build slot while we sort that out.

Interesting you mention the AW M3. I went past Stillwells last night and there was one in the window. Maybe that's your original order?

Funny thing is that down at BMW Melbourne there are 4 sitting on the forecourt plus one in the showroom. All manuals and all around the $150-$160k mark. Add to them the 2 that Doncaster had and there are a few out there looking for homes. Ex BMW cars perhaps?

Hey Guys,

Car will be arriving on the 11th Sept now, not sure what happened maybe ran into bad weather or something because it sat in Africa for a couple of extra days.
It's funny actually I keep getting post cards from my car:lol:

Once it arrives though it could take upto 10 days to get through customs, programming, detailing etc. but im hoping it's a bit quicker than that.

Wow you guys are doing well on fuel:clap:

Yeah the fuel ecconomy is a lot better than I expected it would be. It's been hovering around 13.5-13.7L/100km the last two weeks.

First service is this Friday so I'll open it up a bit more, when I can....

I know the dealer very very well. When he had to get a launch M3 convertible I did a deal with him to order that vehicle with the spec I wanted. He used it for 2 weeks to sell his allotted number of M3 convertible. Then I took delievery.

MB red is great colour especially in the sunlight. Have ordered a special DTM spoiler from Germany. Two to three week build & delievery date.

The eisenmann sports exhaust won't arrive for about 2 weeks also.

Collected my car from the 1st Service on Friday.

This car is just too silly to drive around town at anymore that 2,500rpm. Anyway, I managed to get it over a little more than that on the way home & OH SHIT....!

I'm now wondering how long the rear tyres are going to last on these things..

any one else a bit annoyed at the fact that there is a facelift to the 3 series including the m3 coming out in 2009?

to think that you just bought a nice car n then suddenly being told theres a newer version coming out with different tail lights. very angry at bmw. the only good thing about the m3 is that the only changes are the taillights, which i think are ugly. and also the idrive system and a new color.

what is everyone elses opinion on this change?

bdh2009
09-14-2008, 06:44 PM
I’m not too worried about the tail lights but assuming the new idrive makes it to the new E92 then I am pretty annoyed. The new idrive seems to be a quantum leap and given its reported functionality and features such as onboard drive it will have some effect on the market value of existing vehicles especially given the criticism of the old system. The relatively limited number of OZ M3s delivered since October last year will always now be tagged as pre update. Given that the first DCTs only arrived in Australia around May/June, to then have a new idrive a few months later is pretty slack of BMW/BMWA imo. Perhaps BMWA will offer free upgrades

Nonetheless its still a great car and while the idrive situation is annoying the vehicles fundamentals haven’t changed – grin and bear it I think and just enjoy it. :D

LuKe450
09-14-2008, 07:24 PM
I was fairly certain the tail light upgrade was just on the sedan's.. Who is going to buy a M3 sedan anyway? :D

I'm not concerned about the new iDrive buttons etc etc.

MC444
09-14-2008, 09:29 PM
Have to admit i considered waiting for the new I drive when i first saw it,, but that only lasted about a minute or two. The interface is great and sure there are some great features but just like all computers and phones they are obselete as soon as they arrive here anyway.

I thought how much time i spend using the i drive on my 335 and really it made no sense end of the day you still have to push buttons and get to where you want.

As for the facelift i dont think anything else changes on the coupes anyway, look back at the E46 model life and the M3 remained the same look, it never got the new headlights etc as the regular upgrades, i was told BMW wanted to segregate all sectors of the models into sedan, coupe, convert M3

The only real advantage is that I can have my iPhone in the cradle and get full access to both the phone and music. Other than that it seems much as you'd get with that fancy double cable contraption.

I'll be looking out for some M3 sedans while I'm here let me tell you! Long trip but we've made it. Got a Ford Exploder as a rental. Same price as a full size sedan and the Buick Lacrosse they offered us was both dirty and bloody horrible!

I'm from New Zealand - I have an E90 M3 DCT on order, High Performance Pack (a whole bunch of options, primarily EDC, 19in wheels, 280VMax) + Premium Sound system and hopefully a retrofit of Electric black interior trim.

Unfortunately ETA is February (ordered in July) as I wanted the LCI model and New Zealand isn't getting any build slots until December due to local over stocking...

Hey aggie,
Yeh you can really notice the Blue especially in sunlight. I see one just about everyday now and when it is coming at you it looks like Jet black and then side on when the sun hits it it goes a purple - blue colour.
I'm loving the Fox Red it looks awesome.
