DIY info #2 - parking brake handle...

Have a new handle to install. Any info on how to pull out the original and replace? Point me somewhere. Thanks again.

oh good luck... search this topic for yerself, but my understanding is that the oem brake handle is glued on and very difficult to remove.

no it is not glue. just pull it out like your shift knob.

Yup..Longtran is right..The factory e-brake handle is super easy to remove..Just yank on it hard and it'll pull right out..I replaced mine a while ago with the ACS handle...

The leather cover is definitely glued to the handle! I had to take a little screw driver and pry the glued leather off the handle then give it a good jerk and off it came! When I Installed the new one (Poplar) I can see a gap because I did not glue the leather sleeve to it. Any suggestions on glue choice? :confused2

I didnt see ANY glue at all when I removed mine..It just popped off with a little force..

If you look closely you can see the glue residue and little pieces of beige leather remnants still stuck!

How about putting a couple of rubber bands that are close to the beige color on there? You really just need to cover the black then no one will ever notice.

Or if that's too ghetto, go to an arts & crafts shop & find some leather or naugahide or suede of the right color and glue a thin strip in the gap.

I'm really looking more on the lines of a recommendation for a good, fast drying, strong adhesive. Anyone? :help:

Did you make sure that you pulled the leather boot far enough foward and made sure it "snapped" into place?...

Shadye90, Thanks! :bow: After carefully feeling around the upper portion of the sleeve, I could feel a metal or plastic band which I worked into the groove of the handle! My problem was, I was doing this whlie the brake was off (down position) when I pulled it up I had plenty of slack to work the ring on to the handle!! :thumsup:

I changed over to the Pearlescent chrome E-Brake handle. The leather boot is held onto the handle with a nylon tie wrap on the inside. Once you turn the leather inside out you can easliy clip off the old tie, pull the old handle off, and replace with the new handle (securing the leather with a new tie wrap). The whole process took about 5 minutes.

Finished product.....
