A few days after having a local shop install my kw v3's i noticed a highpitched, metal on metal type of squeak when driving over mild bumps. Its coming from the front passenger side. I took the car to a local bmw service shop to get an alignment done and had them check out the problem. They verified that its NOT coming from any of my suspension components but rather something in the back of the engine bay may be loose. They said they would need the car for the whole day to take things apart to find the problem.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this after having suspension work done on the car? or just in general seen this problem?

*it will only happen a 2-4 times each time i drive the car so its not a constant squeaking either.

when my car was brand new, it had this kind of sound. I was kind of pissed and was going to take it back to the dealer, but it went away in 2 days... i think it was the springs settling in or something.

bump. My car has been doing this for a few weeks now already and it doesnt happen on every bump. I've been told its not my suspension by an independent shop which I had check the car

well, if the dealer AND an independent body shop say its not coming from the suspension, i say just take it to the dealer again and let the diagnose the problem. squeaks are always an annoyance, even if it happens occasionally. hope it works out for ya.

yea i'm thinking of just taking it to the dealer eventho I'm worried they may mess up something else, i hate going to them.

I have a similar issue when I go over bumps. I can hear a squeaking when I go over larger bumps, and it still happens at slow speeds (under 10mph). If my springs don't compress (if I go very slow over the bumps), I don't hear it. The squeaking sounds like it's coming from the suspension because the number of times it squeaks is in relation to how many times my car goes up/down from going over the bump. Haven't gotten it checked out yet, but I'm in the same boat.

Is it cold where you are at the moment? My car (330xi) was squeaking over speed bumps during winter and I kept thinking about taking it in, but never did. Now spring has come and all the snow has gone no more squeaking!

wow funny, when the car hasn't been driven for a day or so, or even when i drive it in the morning it does it like crazy but then it settles down and does it much less often after driving the car throughout the day. i still want to know what that sound is tho. I have coilovers on the car and dont want to deal with the dealership telling me it has to do with those. As we know now, some of you guys are hearing it too and you're stock, goodluck convincing the dealer tho. please update this thread if you guys have any updates

Based on that, it sounds like a bushing is just a little noisy.

i wish it was "just a little noisy" its not the bushing we checked. its a high pitched, metal on metal type of sound, not at all a rubbery squeeking. may be something with the brake rotors

Here's an idea. My s4 had a similar noise. It was the brake calipers. The test is going over a bump that produces a squeak with your foot lightly on the brakes, if it gets quiet it has to do with something rattling behind your brakes. Supposed to be harmless.

I have the exact same thing with my e91 330xi '08 w KWV3 setup! Very loud squeak metal on metal or rubber on metal kind of noise. It doesn't happen always when driving over a bump, maybe every other bump or so.. Very annoying. Local BMW dealer checked it out, everything was fine in the suspension. I have had this problem since January 2008 when it was very cold here in Finland and the same thing goes on now as it is summer and warm. I'll try the braking trick, but it is hard to tell whether it helps or not, as the noise doesn't come always..

I don't get the squeak but I do get a clunking sound from my stock 335 XI at times. I used to live in an apartment with a parking garage and when coming up the steep hill at an angle, I would get a clunk coming from the engine compartment. The car arrives on the 19th and will go to the Dealer for services, I will post any results.

Anyone else get this same sound?

When I go over bumps... like sewer caps.. I hear like some squeeking sounds... but these squeeking sounds sound like wooshing sound like the gas shocks compressing.

no lol its not like that at all, Its not the shocks, its definately a metal on metal, high pitched noise. not a continuous squeeking, but 1 squeek per certain type of bump

Did we ever figure out what this was? I have the same problem, running KW V3s on an XI as well.

my 06 325xi with 18" wheels on stock sp makes squeeks over bumps...even at low speed.

its coming from the back, I'm guessing its the rear fold down seats....drives me crazy, sometimes I wonder if mickey mouse is in my trunk

I also had occassional squeaking going over bumps after having KW V3's installed on my 335xi coupe. After I had the car raised a bit I asked the mechanic to lubricate the coilovers because they were occassionally squeaking. He used a silicone base lubricant and the squeaking was dramatically reduced. But over time the squeaking does gradually return so I assume the coilovers must be lubricated like every 6 months or so...
