Currently the only catless pipes that are available for us XI guys are the UR pipes. Anyone interested in getting RR catless pipes for their XI? We need a few guys that will be dedicated to start off to get these things produced.

According to the ModBargains site these fit xi? I have no idea...can someone comment on fitment? I might be interested if it helps get them produced if they don't already fit.

No,

The Riss Racing Downpipes are specific to the 135i/335i. The application is much more different on the XI version. If we can get a few, not many, just a few people interested, we can go into production for you guys. Humtek has been more than helpful and we want to get this taken care of. I just need a small head count and we'll take care of this for you guys!

I would join up on this list however I cant justify catless DPs given the strict emissions standards in my home state (Virginia).

I severely want catless DPs however... but I must be able to pass emissions inspections here.

Well luckily in my state we don't have emissions except for if you reside in Albuquerque city limits and even there they only do an OBDII check, not the sniff test. Even if you failed the OBDII test I've heard you could easily drop a $20 on the ground and they'll look the other way. :D

Our downpipes start at 3" for maximum flow from your turbos. Slowly tapers to 2.75" then to the 2.5" flange to fit any stock/aftermarket system. UR is straight 2.5" throughout.

Really glad I read your post, I was considering adding myself to the list. I am going to register my car in Michigan for the first year until I get out of the Army and then will have to register her in VA...

Thanks Adam. Also I might be wrong, but from the pictures I think the thermal coating that RR does looks a lot better then the job UR does. Even though you don't see the pipes, but if thermal coating isn't done right then what is the point of paying for it? BTW if these get made I would opt to get mine thermal coated. :D IMHO one company does quality while the other one does quantity, but thats business.

Well if we don't get our 10 and RR decides to not make them. I'll be probably picking up the UR pipes as well. I'm in no rush at this point, but would like to eventually put pipes on.

Well, we can probably do some kind of discount for the first group. They will not run anymore than the current sets, thats for sure. If we can get 10+, we may go cheaper.

Although our downpipes may pass emissions, they are for "race use" only. The N54 motor runs extremely clean, so we aren't too worried they won't pass the sniffer.

Not very knowledgeable on this. Just wondering if it is illegal or just not allowed by warranty. I mean if you pass emissions not like they are going to go under hood and verify its OEM pipes. I doubt they even know what stockers look like.

lol...that's cause in So Cal there's no "need" for an xi, even though I still think that an xi will beat an i on a twisty road coarse with the same suspension (aftermarket...like V3). That's ok though, you got one now! Woohoo!

Your going to get a lot of different opinions on the exhausts for sure. Just pick the sound that is best. :)

For the downpipes there is only one maker for the xi and it's UR currently.

Anthony,

Do you know anything about the O2 simulator and Virginia emissions testing?

I believe here that they do not actually test at the exhaust, but they connect to the ECU and read the O2 from there as they run the test. If it passes, then you are 'ok'. They do this for all vehicles newer than some year (not sure which year it was).

So I think it's a matter of whether or not the O2 simulator is detected. Is that thing obvious when you look at the engine bay? For that matter, does it read like something that would look reasonable, or do you get 'unrealistic' O2 readings? Would the mechanic notice?

edit : This is rather unfortunate... because I'm sure the car would pass easily if they just tested at the exhaust pipe... Every time I test my old honda my readings at the pipe are under 10% of the limit. The 335 would pass *easily* with primary cat delete.

I know if they looked in the engine bay to find the simulator they wouldn't be able to see it unless they actually got into the ECU. I'm guessing they hook up to the OBDII port and check for O2 readiness. In that case I"m not sure whether or not the RR O2 sim would give them the readiness ok. I know the Procede had that problem, but a simple firmware fixed that issue. I'm sure RR works fine, but I'll let them chime in on that.

It isn't built in anymore due to legal reasons. I know it will pass because many people use their O2 sim diy that live in Cali. If you already have a Procede might as well save your self a $100 and do this. Then again if you buy pipes from RR I believe they give them free of charge.
