This is my feeling after previously replacing the VC for my broken and faulty Vanos bolts: Removing the VC for repairs and then replacing the old plastic VC again after these repairs is asking for trouble. A fool's errand IMHO. Used plastic VCs exhibit hairline cracks and other problematic crankcase ventilation issues because of the high temps these engines operate at.
All BMW is doing here is covering their rear ends, but creating bigger problems for owners, and sooner rather than later.
