This was one of the reasons why I was fine with the OEM 18" M Sport wheels and saw no need to go with a larger diameter wheel.. For the winter, I'm running 235/45/18 and 245/45/18 winter tires. Figured a bit more of sidewall should address some of these issues.
17" on my E90.

I got the warranty and it has already paid for itself in the course of one year of driving NYC roads. Once for ALL FOUR wheels with small bends, and two times for two tires. Everyone's mileage will vary, but the roads around here are horrendous during the winter. And see my above post about how the city isn't responsible for pothole damage during most of the year. I would say just get it if you're DD'ing NYC. I have the roads I take memorized to the square foot it feels like, but during the winter months, potholes (large ones) can appear within hours where there previously weren't any. It's bonkers.
