VANCOUVER — Four people were injured Tuesday morning in an apparent carjacking in downtown Vancouver that ended with a BMW coupe smashing into CBC's new studio.

Police say a pedestrian leaped on the hood of a BMW stopped at a Vancouver crosswalk.

After an argument with the suspect, the driver left the car parked and sought help. The suspect then got into the car and sped off backwards, hitting three vehicles before smashing into the ground-floor windows of the CBC building.

Police say it appears the car's two occupants may have been dragged under the BMW. However, some witnesses told The Vancouver Province a woman was in the vehicle while the suspect tried to speed away.

A pedestrian was injured when the man tried to help the driver stop the suspect from driving away, witnesses said.

Before police and ambulance units arrived, bystanders restrained the suspect, who tried to leave the scene, police say.

Four people are in hospital. The suspect could face charges of robbery and assault, Vancouver police say.

At the scene, police investigators were photographing the debris and pools of blood for evidence.

Some witnesses say the well-dressed suspect appeared to be deranged.

The CBC studios recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation with a more prominent street presence.
