Angry Frozen door locks on X5

Do any other members experience problems with door locks in low temperatures? The Door on our 57 Reg X5 opens ok, but will not close, BMW assist said only solution was to start the engine and put on full heat, after a period of 10 to 20 minutes depending on the severity of frost the door catch then engages as normal. They say it is a common fault but I cant believe that all X5 owners are prepared to put up with that, we often have temps of minus 3 and worse, this morning it was minus 10, even leaving work this evening I had to endure the same problem, engine running for 20 minutes does nothing for the environment let alone sheer embarassment of owning a so called top quality motor for it to have would appear such a minor problem. Incidentally I have owned BMWs for 10 years and never had this issue previously, our other car a 320 BMW sits along side theh X5 and no problems with the locks. Dont think I will purchase another X5 for this reason alone.
