Downloading was an issue, but after installing APK downloader for google chrome I managed to transfer from my computer to my phone and it installed without a problem.
Also, 3 series is supported (at least one person on android central with a 2009 3 series is using it).
I just can't find out where to get a username and password to log in to the app so I don't know if it will work for me yet.
