How could having it active CAUSE a collision? I have owned my car for nine years, driven it in about every possible road and weather condition, and I am NOT a shy wallflower of a driver either, and never once have I thought I would be better off with it off. It's damned near magic in the snow (assuming proper snow tires so it has grip to work with). Please be specific - I am genuinely curious here.
