Yes I tried it yesterday and it works. However you can't use google maps or anything if you have it running through connected drive as other members have stated.

ANYTHING can be bluetoothed, speaking for android anyway. Google maps with turn by turn audible also Bluetooth, amazing, don't think you can do that with Apple devices though. |

As you said , Bluetooth Is Bluetooth. So yes OF COURSE the iPhone can Bluetooth Google maps turn by turn directions right to the vehicle.
