They, as a pack, will go after an elk calf, but we're past that time. They may also watch for the big animals to stir up rabbits and other mammals. Around here, the pack will attack a deer buck. They try to bring it down by attacking the hind quarters and disabling it. I can't imagine that with an elk. One on one is only newborns.
Our duck varieties really go to almost nothing but mallards in winter, so I'm about to hit a five-month drought for most waterbirds. Of course, geese never go away.
Ah, but the eagles will come in here as soon as the lakes start to freeze.
