really depends on what sorts of editing you plan to do.

Straight out of the camera, underexposed is going to look better, no doubt about it.

But shooting to the right actually give you more colours to play with, and then when you get it on the computer at home, you just under expose it. So in a sense, this is correct, but when on the computer, there's more information and control to work with and have complete control over.

at least when this guy was underexposing with film, he could recover things easier to make them brighter. Not as easy with digital on a technical level. Once you lose the colours in digital, they are gone, so you may as well shoot the way that gives you the most flexibility.
